Forums - Sony Discussion - The Order 1886 not a huge flop?

It did just good enough RAD did not go under, but I doubt Sony is happy about the sales.

How has The Order: 1886 performed commercially? Did it meet your commercial expectations?
Sams: While we would love to share with you how well The Order: 1886 has performed since it release, those are numbers that only Sony can divulge. Suffice it to say, we are very proud of that game, and we are well on our way to achieving the sales performance that we sought.

A sequel would be nice, but unless R@D can get some better resources to work on it, Sony should just get another developer, that is more competent, to do it. If ND's B-team isn't up to anything after UC4, I think they should do it, while the A-team works on a new IP/ TLoU2.

RAD isa  very competent developer if you look at their past projects. This is their first and only flop critically and commercially, which coincidentally happened to be their most important and mainstream project, tainting their image.

They're great at making smaller games, i.e. for portable and weaker hardware. They clearly didn't have the resource level to create a full fledged AAA title for a console like PS4, and they still don't. They made it clear they're moving on to greener pastures, anyway, so Sony might as well get someone to do it, who's guarenteed to either do it right or a lot better.

Sony put a lot into the title. They're probably extremely annoyed to say the least lol

I don't think anyone would like to take over their vision for the IP. It would be better for them to make a spiritual sucessor to The Order: 1886 without calling it so, that way they would have more freedom in their approach to it and also it would have a bigger chance of success.

I don't think it's a flop and maybe it will be profitable some day. It got average reviews and still managed to more than 1m copies. But comparing it's sales to Xbox game sales is unfair because the PS4 has sold twice as much as the X1.

Why not?

They're comparing it to Splatoon rofl

we wouldn't know if it is really a flop or not until we knew the exact figures on how much it cost dev + marketing. and if a certain number of game copy is sold. so far, we knew that there are critics who didn't like the game but a mixed review from gamers which some really enjoyed the game. until sony unveils the cost and sales, and if they really profit from it or not. we won't know.

Im not gonna say its a flop... just a huge disappointment for consumers and Sony. Its only 23 bucks new on Amazon now.

If it was just a gameplay focused experience like Gears it would have performed much better. Im glad it did poorly. We dont need more games like that.

In regards to the OP, The Order likely had the bigger budget and its in a more popular genre. Of all the games you mentioned the Order was the most hyped and was available to the larger PS4 audience.

Sony owns all the art assets/game engine for the Order, the next game would be significantly cheaper to make. Making a new IP from scratch cost a lot more money.

That's like saying Disney sghould make the Lone Ranger sequel because they still have props and costumes from the original flop.

It's better to spend a bit more on an untainted title, than to save money to make a sequel very few people will buy. Or just give that money to some proven franchise..

If they make a sequel, I rather they give it to another developer since RAD really dropped the ball on this game and they lied as far as I am concerned about gameplay and investigative elements which really were just looking at objects that's been done for donkeys years and in many games.
