Forums - Sony Discussion - The Order 1886 not a huge flop?

What was the budget for the game and how much did it make. That's the way to see if the game is a flop or not.

I am a Nintendo fanatic.

Maybe not a huge one but a flop nonetheless

Sony owns the IP and not Ready at Dawn. There could be a sequel in the future, but not from Ready at Dawn.

Why would they even consider it after this failure? It's not like this IP has any goodwill left. They woukd be just better off creating a brand new TPS from scratch, without any of The Order's baggage.

Sony owns all the art assets/game engine for the Order, the next game would be significantly cheaper to make. Making a new IP from scratch cost a lot more money.

Whether bloodborne, order or sunset sales are good. At least from the publishers perspective. Probably all of them make a huge loss.

On the other hand there is a game like Splatoon, has sold more than a million and break even already.

This gen needs more middle budget games.

Bloodborne was very successful for Sony.

The question is if they would even bother using the engine... I hope they make another, but cant say I'm convinced now that they have dropped the order creators.

Making an indie game : Dead of Day!

Based on the amount of threads bragged about how good it would be/ how well it would sell on this site, its absolutely for sure definitely a flop.

maybe we see a sequel, would be sad because the game ended the same way like Shenmue 2

Does that mean Galahad will be trapped in a cave for 14 years? :(

The game cost a lot so it probably hasn't breaked even yet. You can clearly see the high production values from the graphics, cutscene quality and voice acting even if the game itself was mediocre.

bloodborne will turn a profit, its the 4th game they made like this, and its the best selling.

Sunset may has a chance to break even if they port it to pc, could see it selling realy good on steam for 9.99.

the order is done, its a top contender for beeing the biggest 1st party flop this gen.

and at the end, splatoon would have breaken even at 500k i guess, but now it will sell 4m at 40€, thats like printng money

The game flopped both critically and financially. Sony broke off the collaboration with RAD, sequel is never happening, and that is a much better metric than faulty VGC numbers.
It is a mistake to take VGC software numbers seriously, they are all over the place, and are almost never accurate.

Why not from RAD? They were always independent, not owned by Sony. They said recently that they'd like to do another game in The Order's universe.
