Forums - Sony Discussion - The Order 1886 not a huge flop?

Definitely a critical flop and it apparently made Sony not want to invest in a sequel, I'd say it's a flop.

Whether bloodborne, order or sunset sales are good. At least from the publishers perspective. Probably all of them make a huge loss.

On the other hand there is a game like Splatoon, has sold more than a million and break even already.

This gen needs more middle budget games.

??? Bloodborne is most likely one of the most successful tittles/ip of 2015; crossed the 1 million mark about 1 1/2 weeks after coming out, was in amazon's top 20 for about a month at full price

as for the order and sunset they done(or will do) probably enough to warrent a sequel

The game flopped both critically and financially. Sony broke off the collaboration with RAD, sequel is never happening, and that is a much better metric than faulty VGC numbers.
It is a mistake to take VGC software numbers seriously, they are all over the place, and are almost never accurate.

A game clearly set up and intended as a franchise, looking like it will not become a franchise, I call that a flop. I think the game got rated (metacritic) about right. Personally it's a 6 or 6.5 game to me. It's a good game but it is also lacking in many areas which should not be lacking from a 1st party Sony AAA game. Someone was not keeping an eye on this game.

I would like Sony to take a risk, put the team back together for a sequel, but infuse some more talent into senior positions in the project who will oversee and guide the development to make a more well rounded product. There is good will for the game and the world they created out there and people want to like it a lot more than what they can right now. A lot of critics said generally negative things about the game, but still voiced hope there would be a sequel.

But I believe Sony's risk is now being tied up with Horizon: Zero Dawn (please be a project name and not the actual name of the game). This is the next big budget new IP that needs to be a hit for Sony. Maybe if Horizon makes profit, and when Uncharted's money roles in, and if Santa Monica can make a hit with its next game they might be willing to dust off The Order again and see if they can do more with it second time around.

The Order: 1886 did good for a new IP imo.

Sony owns the IP and not Ready at Dawn. There could be a sequel in the future, but not from Ready at Dawn.

PS4 had double the install base and The Order 1886 could barely beat a game that was sent out to die in the holidays (sunset). Ready at dawn isn't working with sony for another title, so there's no way anyone couldn't consider this a huge flop.

Comparing it to Xbone titles is pointless given the user base difference. The game was a flop both critically and financially, as evidenced by the fact that Sony has pretty much cut ties with RAD. It's not a normal game, there was a large marketing push and years spent building an engine.

I mean, the game took over 5 years to make. That's basically a year of development for every hour it took me to platinum the game. Insanity.

I don't think it's a flop and maybe it will be profitable some day. It got average reviews and still managed to more than 1m copies. But comparing it's sales to Xbox game sales is unfair because the PS4 has sold twice as much as the X1.

Why would they even consider it after this failure? It's not like this IP has any goodwill left. They woukd be just better off creating a brand new TPS from scratch, without any of The Order's baggage.
