Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why are 3rd party exclusive deals suddenly a great thing now?

Why are they great?

BECAUSE PS4 HAS THEM, SUCKA!!!! 73 50.34%

They aren't, they just hurt the industry. 56 38.62%

I always loved them! 16 11.03%

So last generation, we know Microsoft abused their dominance in the home console market to money whore 3rd parties into making deals with their console. I, as well as many other people protested about this, as it was used as an excuse to not make 1st parties. This generation, Sony has done the same thing. With COD BO III, SW: BF, MGS V, pretty much everything except for Fallout 4 is all with Sony. Now I don't understand why this is fine. Sony fans are saying this is a great thing, saying COD is back in revival, how it'll sell more consoles than Halo 5. They say how SW: BF will sell millions more on the Playstation, and will have DLC first... Now Microsoft is too blame for this as well, but they've been focusing much more on 1st parties this gen, and have let go most 3rd paty deals.

Anyway, I hate it. Not because I waste my money on DLC, but because of the same reason's I hated it last gen with the 360. It also gives the other platform a big pile of shit. Oh and no, I'm not buying a PS4 for DLC first, so don't bother. Anyway, look back at E3. How many exclusive games did Sony show for 2015? Now not 2016, because that's next year. How many where shown for 2015... one. It was no man's sky, and it was a 2 minute demo. That's it! People can say how they have a great lineup this year, but clearly Sony doesn't think that, as it didn't bother showing them off. It was 2/3 third party "exclusive" deals, and the rest for 2016 and 2017.

Now E3 is done, so we don't need to talk too much about that. But do you see the pattern. Sony is doing the same thing Microsoft did last gen. Now you could say that's not true, but compare to what we saw with the PS3, and what we're seeing with the PS4 in terms of 1st party content, you can't compare. You could also say Sony is in a dominating position, but so was the 360. It didn't matter then, why does it matter now. Anyway, the fact is, these deals are terrible to the industry. It makes one fanbase milked to death, while another one left out to dry. Its terribly sad, and I hope this ends for good soon!

Edit: I have added Microsoft to make it more fair to Sony's fanbase.

Since BOTH Xbox and Sony can't develop first party games as fast as they would like, and their consoles are so similar... They have to fight in order to "stand out" from the other, they have to make sure they can offer things to costumers, that their rival can't. And that involves everything you say you don't like in your post.

I think its a bunch of horse crap, but hey! They have to stand out even if it means spending millions of money they could use in supporting their developing teams instead.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Some people said they were good back then, some complained.

Likewise some people now don't complain, some do.

And there have always been some people saying that third parties should remain multiplat.

There is no difference now to how things were back then, it's more of the same.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

and how many games did MS show for 2016? Two, one was a CGI trailer and the other was a boring demo. we already seen a lot of Until Dawn, Tearaway and Everybodies gone to the rapture. and a new trailer for Persona 5 was shown shortly after E3. why waste E3 time on that instead of showing new games?

Sony brought the big guns to E3. Horizon, Uncharted, Dreams, Rigs, TLG, Shenmue, FF7, Final Fantasy World. just because they didnt focus and spend much time on the games coming out this year doesnt mean they arent coming.

The extra content and exclusive games may not have been made in the first place if the platform holders hadn't paid for it.

Don't copy random editorials.

also "Anyway, the fact is, these deals are terrible to the industry. It makes one fanbase milked to death, while another one left out to dry. Its terribly sad, and I hope this ends for good soon!"

what a terrible statement, are you completely uninformed? you may look at the industry gaming industry as a "gamer" and what matters is that you get more games. but those of us that look at the industry with a realistic view dont see it as such. For devs to make games, they need to make money, and in order to make money, they need to sell their games.

these "marketing deals" arent a waste of money, because its a win-win situation. Sony markets batman, batman sells more, PS4 sells more, Sony makes money and WB makes money, and then rocksteady can make more games. its that simple. these marketing deals arent coming out of development budgets. but the marketing budget of the company.

MS's was given flack last gen because they focused on third party deals and milking the same franchises (fable, Forza, Gears and Halo) to sell their console, without trying to do or bring anything new, and that can not be said of Sony this gen.

Another Sony has no games in the fall thread. You make the same type of anti-Sony thread everyday, just worded differently.Nothing that Sony is doing has taken away any exclusive games as it makes sense for devs to give Sony the deals because of the way the PS4 is selling. They are not blocking games from going to the Xbox like MS is doing with Tomb Raider. There is o proof that Sony is paying for anything anyway. That is hearsay.Sony has already released some games this year unlike MS.

Sony have got titles for this year. Until Dawn,Tearaway Unfolded,Dragon Quest Heroes,Persona 5.Uncharted Collection to name some. But I can tell you now that the big sellers between Sep-Dec will be the big multipat titles. Sony have used their brains and kept their big exclusives away. Why waste massive amounts on advertising and mindshare with the behemoths of the industry??? You can't compete with Cod,Star Wars Battlefront,FIFA,AC Syndicate,MGS 5,Fallout 4 and even Just Cause 3

i dont remember ever saying that, in fact i have said various times in this forum that i hate moneyhats (yes this is not the same type of exclusivity deal that OP is talking about, but its still the worst type of 3rd party exclusivity deal), i only accept them when its in the conditions of bayonetta.
