You kidding right? Best decision he ever made. All 4 billion of it.

Not if disney runs the "star wars" brand through the mud with it's fans. Disney has already ruined the storyline/timeline of star wars.

Lucas ruined Star Wars all on his own with the New Trilogy.

I heard from somewhere that stormtroopers were still clones after a new hope but they were being created/cloned from multiple DNA sources and not just from Bobba. I have a friend that read all of those books that were part of the star wars universe but disney is disregarding them.

Extended Universe was thrown out, which includes everything involving the kids and characters like Mara-Jade.

Even then, if the Stormtroops are clones from someone else's DNA, no reason why that person couldn't be black. Eitherway it's not the case and people that have an issue with a brand new character being of a certain ethnicity need to think about why they really have an issue with this.

I'm not really talking about that character being black. I'm just trying to figure out the lore and how it pertains to the new trilogy. This whole thread got me to do some research and I found out that disney is more or less screwing up by rewriting the extended universe and ignoring certain shows.

They were overloaded with CGI and the looks of 'em.

I don't see the main character is a "minority." What's make him a minority in the Star Wars universe? I know what makes him a "minority" in a legal sense in the united States, but is he a "minority" in regards to world status? I just see him as a human being with a certain skin tone in reality as well as fiction. Problem solved.

Plus he looks nothing like these guys

And he won't have an Australian accent.

And don't be so racist as to say he does look like them. Not all brown-skinned people look the same you know!

I'll wait till I see the film before I make conclusions. He might be great, he might not, we'll see.

I think it's stupid that it's even a discussion. Him being black shouldn't be a talking point on either side. It's not "good for minorities." It's good for John Boyega. You know what's good for minorities? Not always bringing up insignificant shit like this. I'm black and the most fucking annoying thing in the world is the false idea that I need to be "represented."

Blacks don't need some starring role in a movie. Just because someone is a minor black character, doesn't mean they're "token" or a "stereotype" or stupid shit like that. I don't need anyones help to justify my race, so a black guy starring in a movie isn't some black "win." They are just another character with another skin color. You know what's racially insensitive? The prevalent thought process that one minor black character implies that all black people are now assumedly minor. There's one damsel in distress? Must mean the director is calling all women weak, right? One mean gay character? The director totally hates gays.

And now, suddenly one black guy gets a starring role, and it's a good thing because? Because all black people are strong and powerful leaders now? We're not individuals who have to earn leading roles based off our talents, but a race who needs to be represented entirely as something only a statistical fraction of ANY demographic would fit under. Exactly.

The sooner people stop making a big deal about shit like this, the sooner racism really ends. He's just a guy with a lead roll. Good for him. He alone earned it for he alone. That's where it ends.

Wow, home run with this post.

OT:  My only thought is that I hope Star Wars keeps its story intact.  For me, I've always thought of it as the story of the Skywalker family.  I really hope that Luke has a kid in the plot somewhere to keep that potential going for future instalments into the future.  I know, there's Han and Leia's kid too, but it's not quite the same.  So if John Boyega's the lead and there isn't a new Skywalker baby somewhere else, I hope it's because Luke's his dad and he had a baby with a hot black she-jedi.  Of course, the plot could be that it doesn't matter if you're a Skywalker and the Force can just choose a new hero for a new generation.
