Forums - Sales Discussion - How well would the Wii sell without Wii Sports?

I don't think it would have done as well. But it would still be ahead of the PS3. Due to the popularity of the DS, I think people would be conscious of the Nintendo brand. I think the TP helped it a lot too.

The Wii would be floundering as bad, if not worse, than the PS3, most likely. Wii play is selling more for the 2nd controller than the game itself, and wii sports makes up more than half of the appeal for the platform.

well wii launched with twilight princess so without wii sports bundled, the wii would have similar sales here in america. not so sure about japan though, its a totally different market

 Its not bundled in Japan

my bad i forgot, but wii sports wouldnt sell as well as it does in japan if it wasnt bundled here but i still stand by my first opinion

Wii ID: 3598-1817-7961-3393. PM me if you want an add

If it wasnt for MGS4, the PS3 is unnecessary

I think Wii sports is the greatest Ad in the history of gaming.

I'd change that to 'watching people play Wii Sports is the greatest Ad in the history of gaming,' but yeah, I agree.

Pretty good for a 'non-game'.

Same as it is now.

Without Wii Sports, I think the drought would be over by now.

Not fully the same but I think 5 million by now would have been a good number. But hmm tha would put the price to $200 making it even more mass market but I think Wii Sports has put in a lot of new and casual gamers cause the pricepoint is still very mass market. So yea 5 million instead of 7 million.

no Wii Sports, no Wii Hype, no Wii sales

Wii Sports starts the viral chain of marketing: someone buys a Wii, their friends/family play Wii Sports, they think it's awesome, they opt to get one, then THEIR friends/family play it, and so on and so forth.

"I mean, c'mon, Viva Pinata, a game with massive marketing, didn't sell worth a damn to the "sophisticated" 360 audience, despite near-universal praise--is that a sign that 360 owners are a bunch of casual ignoramuses that can't get their heads around a 'gardening' sim? Of course not. So let's please stop trying to micro-analyze one game out of hundreds and using it as the poster child for why good, non-1st party, games can't sell on Wii. (Everyone frequenting this site knows this is nonsense, and yet some of you just can't let it go because it's the only scab you have left to pick at after all your other "Wii will phail1!!1" straw men arguments have been put to the torch.)" - exindguy on Boom Blocks

Agreed. Wii Sports started the massive mainstream press attention Nintendo got. Bucketloads of free publicity. Bucketloads.

Not so good. Hence, the decision to include it.
