This is usually always the situation with Nintendo consoles ( It's usually not this pronounced but you get the point ). I think the fact that the console only has 9 million seller games( 12 with Hyrule and Splatoon ) is the main reason why Nintendo can't get third party support.

Its more than just sales not being there though...

Look at Sony's E3... its all about 3rd parties. Sony does more or less everything it can for its 3rd party titles.

Meanwhile Its like Nintendo refuse to spend anything to help 3rd party compete gainst their own first party.

I think Nintendo see themselfs as a game developer, that just happends to make hardware, so people can buy their software.

Microsoft and Sony are more tech firms, they goal is to support 3rd party as a place to have games.

It's because Nintendo is bullied by evil developers who will only do inferior ports on Wii U out of spite and villainy.

To add something up, if you look the software sales for a third party console like the Gamecube, you see that a vast majority of first-party games selling better than the third-party games that have sold better in PS2 and Xbox, for example. Also, 16 out of the Top 20 games were published by Nintendo.

yeah they shouldn't release as many games as they have to give room for them, that should do the trick

9 million sellers over the course of 2 years is not a huge number, only 6 2m+ sellers over 2 years is pretty bad. There is plenty of rooms for third parties to find success, but what this list does show is that Wii U and I guess Nintendo in general is skewed towards a certain type of cute, colourful game. But we already knew this lol

But lets just put it this way. Even if Final Fantasy XV and Mass Effect Andromeda came to Wii U, as a fan of those franchises you're already going to have a PS4 by the time they launch. Considering the weakness the of the Wii U, you were always going to pick up a PS4 to play those kind of game. If you're someone who only buys one platform, you'd probably skip the Wii U or pick it up at the end of the generation
