Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Yuji Horii confirms Dragon Quest VII and VIII (3DS) are coming west

"Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii just wrapped up a conference of sorts at the Japan Expo. At the very end of the event, he supposedly dropped a major bombshell. Horii said that the 3DS remakes Dragon Quest VII and Dragon Quest VIII will be released “in French”.

That information comes from Twitter user Jérémie Kermarrec, who attended the conference. It’s backed up by fan site Final Fantasy Ring. Earlier today, the site posted an interview with Horii in which he stated that Square Enix is “thinking about” localizing Dragon Quest VII and Dragon Quest VIII.

Kermarrec spoke with someone from Square Enix once things ended, and was told that Horii sharing the big news wasn’t planned. He nonetheless appears to have confirmed that the 3DS releases of Dragon Quest VII and Dragon Quest VIII are both coming west."

Will get both day 1, can they also find it in their hearts to freaking release DQ X?

Love and tolerate.

Thank you, Square Enix. These will be my first Dragon Quest games. I've been wanting to get into this series for awhile now :)

You should get the remakes of the NDS ones specifically DQ5!

I've been considering that too.  Which game is the best to start with, or does it not matter?

DQX was a flop in Japan. It sold so poorly on the Wii and Wii U they ported it to freaking every non-home console platform under the sun trying to get more people to buy it. If Japan doesn't want it, it wouldn't sell pretty much at all in the West.

So once again it looks like NoE does what NoA won't. LE sigh

DQX was only on 3DS, Wii, Wii U and PC.

And it wasn't really a flop. Did it sell an amazing number of units? No. But it's an MMO, so what matters is how long the user base stays subscribed. Each time an update is released, it sells more than the one before it, and Squeenix has said that it's been a successful venture for them.

That being said, there's absolutely no chance it will come to the west.

Going by the DS games, all of them are a little bit different. IV is broken up into chapters that all have a different focus until all the heroes come together. I enjoyed it well enough. V deals more with just having you as a human character most of the time, and otherwise you recruit monsters off the field to make up your team who you level up, equip, etc. The story is interesting and I had fun with the game. VI is more classic in that it has a job system as the focus for character growth. I don't recall much about the story, but I found the class system fun to work with. As for the original title, IX, you have to get used to the fact that the main character is the only non-generic throwaway character. IX definitely has the most content though, also has a job system, and it was one of my favorite DS experiences back when I first played and beat it.

My recommendation would go:
V/IX - For very different reasons, these two are tied for me. V wins for story, they tie for gameplay, and IX wins for amount of content.

VI

IV

None of them are bad, but I just find them to be the most fun in that order.

Doesnt matter which one - its like Final Fantasy  , none of the games storylines relate to each other.

Alright.  Thank you
