Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Digital Foundry: Can Halo 5 deliver on its 60fps promise?

They did.

At E4 2014.

Plus...

I can go on... they really confirmed the feature multiple times.

They confirmed one or two weeks ago splitscreen on GAF too... after that GAF said they lied and a huge post from the devs was posted in the Halo OT trying to explain the compromisses.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=170355245&postcount=13139

Two off hand replies on twitter from one dev when the game was in beta(real beta stage, not destinys "beta" stage) is multiple sources of confirmation that it would be in the final game these days? From that Gaf thread the main complaint was that they withheld information in regards to splitscreen, not that they came out and said "yes definitely in the game" then removed it. Most people were upset and thought splitscreen would be in the game because it has always been included in halo games moreso than because of anything 343 said or confirmed. If you take off hand comments and single out devs and what they say on twitter on a game nearly a year from release then you'll find a lot of devs lie.

The main guy calling them dishonest even admits he went too far pages later but whatever, if you want to view 2 tweets by the same guy back in December as multiple sources of confirmation that splitscreen was definitely in the game then go ahead.

so we have to wait a bit longer for halo 5 in hd, till it launches on the pc(or will it be a launchtitle for the new windows 10 gamingapp?).

That's right, I'm referring to Hz.  But isn't higher than 30FPS wasted on a 30Hz TV?  Wouldn't I possibly see tearing playing a 60FPS game on a 30Hz TV?

I don't know all SNES games but Star Fox was sub 30fps... 20ish.
Metal Slug was 30fps.
Super Double Dragon was 30fps.
Road Rash and Super Thunder Blade weren't 60fps but I don't know the framerate.

Just to say some but seems like most games were 50/60fps.

Please, give us a official statement from one of 343i chief staft or a PR realease saing that split screen was to be part of Halo 5.

Something in the likes of:

"We Microsoft are happy to anounce that Halo 5 will ship hollydays 2015 ... the game will have split-screen coop and multiplay..."

As the twitters seem to show is that they even didn´t start implementing split-screen untill recentlly. They´ve never shown any split screen footage. And being honnest, only a fringe group was interested.

But hey, you said over and over again that Destiny is the best game this generation so far.

Well, Destiny is the posterchild of overpromissing and underdelivering. It dosen´t have splitscreen, it´s only 30FPS (even in the all might PS4), it has blant textures and animation carried back from Halo 3... and etc...

Is that like my qualifications/job bullshit your are trying to make reality?

I posted enough confirmation from the Executive Producer (the head about Halo 5)... what you posted? Nothing... just talk lol like alwasys because you have no consistence or any evidences to support you own talk.

And what Destiny have to do with that? Can you bullshit more about that? Do you really believe in the defense force you try do here?

All the talk about splitscreen happened because they promised/confirmed and now after E3 they dropped the feature... that is the whole story here... nothing to add.

Oh you are referring to hz, rather than fps. Your TV will be able to run 60fps. The only ones that can't are European sets that are only 50hz rather than 60hz (their maximum is 50fps which was the PAL standard). Even CRT TVs could handle 60fps :)

NES/SNES games etc were generally 60fps. It was when we went 3D that the frame rates took a hammering on home consoles.

That's right, I'm referring to Hz.  But isn't higher than 30FPS wasted on a 30Hz TV?  Wouldn't I possibly see tearing playing a 60FPS game on a 30Hz TV?

I'd be extremely surprised if your TV was 30hz. NTSC is 60hz, PAL is 50hz but now also 60hz. Then the "premium" TVs often liked to be 100hz or 120hz and would do some stupid "frame blending" to smoothen out the image but that was horrific. Native is always best.

TV shows are generally 30fps, movies 24fps if your TV supports 1080/24 and you have a compatible blu-ray player hooked up. I live in the UK, so my TV is 1080/50 with content running at 25fps generally. Though for Blu-rays and video games it will be 24fps for movies, 30fps or 60fps for other content as the TV's in Europe are now dual frequency and can do 50hz or 60hz.

I'm not too up on TV specifics, but I'm 99% certain your TV is at least 60hz.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Criticising frame rate, resolution and speculation on a consoles hardware all in one thread??? Only in VGchartz.

The supposedly ''best looking'' game of this gen is currently sitting at 63% on Metacritic. Visuals don't mean shit. Never did, never will.

Any resolution above 30FPS is absolutely divine. People are acting like a dip from 60 to 40ish is gamebreaking, when most people will never notice it in the first place.

It will be neat if Halo 5 is mostly 60fps, a few dips here and there really wont be gamebreaking at all, unless it goes to below 20, which it most likely wont.

As for splitscreen, if you play Halo on an active basis, you should know that the amount of people playing splitscreen is noway near the amount that used to play it in the H2/H3 years. There is a group out there cetainly that loves splitscreen, but what used to be 20%, (ie always 2 people on splitscreen every other game or so) is now about 2%, as in in an hour of play, you are only going to see split screen players pop up once or twice.

The only time i've ever heard any one mention 4k gaming on current gen its a few deluded Xbox players. Most of us know that isn't going to happen on either console. As far as the article goes, i don't think they'll have issues getting the MP to a solid 60fps, SP they might just end up dropping to 30fps if it's too much of a hassle. Also are they saying the E3 demo ran below 720p at certain points?

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=205462 it's not even close to just being Xbox players.

FIT_Gamer was talking about this gen

didnt even notice that, my point still stands though. ive seen ps4 owners think that they'll get 4k with an update to ps4's software.

Ltd predictions by the time 9th Gen comes out

Ps4:110million

Xbox one :75 million( was 65)

Wii u: 20 milliion
