Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Source: NX "Is Definitely Not Aiming To Compete With PS4 On Horsepower"

Sorry but they really aren't. I don't know why people keep saying this. Assuming this whole 2 SKUs with a unified library thing is true then that would mean that all games would have to be created with assets that are at least acceptable on the stronger SKU, but also work on the weaker SKU, generally resources needed per game would rise and while there might be somewhat less long droughts Nintendo would surely not be able to adequately support the system on their own.

They dont need "differnt" assets.... they just need to bump up resolution and AA.

Watch this video: (same assets, same game, differnce is just resolution they are rendered at)

Psp resolution (480x272) vs PPSSPP (1280x720):

No not different assets, but assets that look good on home console or do you want all home console games to just be upscaled handheld ports? For that to work the handheld would have to be significantly stronger, which would again raise development costs.

Nintendo needs to stop worrying about third parties, instead buy out a few quality devs and publishers, and just pack their systems with experiences completely unavailable anywhere else (because they're first party).

Don´t know if the source is right but I´m expecting this and people should be expecting this.

They are aiming for a very cheap console that will probably be a handheld and a homeconsole at the same time.

People saying that will not get third party support because of this... yeah because underpowered consoles never get any third party support, run and tell that to the 3DS xD

Why do people believe all these ridiculous rumors lol If it's not Nintendo don't believe it!

3DS is in different condition than Wii U. In handheld there is "no competition". So by default its the destination of third party developers. In home console? Not so much.

No

Because this console will be also a handheld, so it will get most of the third party support of the previous one (3ds), and it has the extra appealing of being a handheld, specially on Japan.

If this console gets stuff like Pokemon, Yoktai and Monster Hunter...  then NX just can´t flop.

My point was for "home console version". Lets see how much third party support it can retain. Nintendo seriously underestimated processing power in 8th gen.

That thing is so not getting any third party support.

Unified game library...  Nintendo not haveing to split their game developement between a handheld and a console, means nintendo are big enough to support the system single handedly without need of 3rd party.

I think we kind of got an early taste of the future with Super Smash bros. with it launching on 3DS and then polished up graphically for the Wii-U. But i agree, just unifying the platforms is not enough. Handheld market is still shrinking so they would end up with an even smaller install base than they have now.

3DS is way less powerful than the PSV, yet it's doing extremely well.

If Nintendo didn't have the whole gamepad gimmick and easy to code the wiiu, it could've been in the 3DS situation.

After all the clues in the recent slew of Nintendo comments, it was clear to me that this would be the case. Nintendo just don't seem to get it at all.
