Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Source: NX "Is Definitely Not Aiming To Compete With PS4 On Horsepower"

From NeoGaf:

I can't vouch for the source, but apparently he has dev contacts and he says "he's absoutely sure of that". He Called the Uncharted PS4 collection, Fallout 4 Pip-Boy collection, etc. before they were announced. Sounds like the report of Nintendo briefing devs at E3 was true and things are starting to leak a bit.

That thing is so not getting any third party support.

Cause it will pack 6+TFLOPS? ;)

To be honest for *Nintendo games* even Wii U horsepower seems good enough to make most games look very nice. Not saying I wouldn't take a more powerful system, but it isn't like the Wii days either where the graphics looked really worse than PS3/360 games because of the lack of HD.

I'm guessing they totally are going with the hybrid of fusion concept. So maybe the Android app rumors are also true, that would fit into a low cost, low power machine that's portable centric.

And if it does, traditional games will most likely flop on it just as they did the Wii U.

The way I can see this working is if they manage to reach a strong userbase in a short space of time (combine  the handheld and console), third parties may make cheap exclusives for it that just as they did the Wii and capitalise off that market.

oh gawd. Will Nintendo ever learn. Generally, people don't want to buy a product when they know the product sitting right next to it is more powerful.

Nintendo is trying to recreate the Wii again it seems. They could succeed, but the odds are against them.

psn- tokila

add me, the more the merrier.

Don't know how reliable is that source but in my opinion a focus in an attractive input device while maintaining manufacturing costs low is the right approach for Nintendo while they wait for their console to strike gold like the Wii.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

I think honestly this is the 3DS successor primarily. Now you'll ask "well what about the Wii U successor?" ... there isn't one.

This will replace the consoles too, Nintendo is happy enough with where mobile tech is today (and honestly mobile chips are capable of very pretty graphics these days) that they decided to just wash their hands of the separate console idea. Too many headaches with the console business and take two looks at Sony/MS trying to money-hat even third party DLC and I can see from Nintendo's POV why the traditional home console of today isn't up their alley at all.

That's a shame. Hopefully this isn't true.
