Forums - Sony Discussion - Capcom: Sony's ambition is to make the PS4 home of the fighting genre.

Nope. http://evo.shoryuken.com/ (Check the title that's so big they had to have 2 games out of the franchise, and even then it's so popular they have to close registration for new competitors.

(Hint: It isn't Tekken)

Hmm I always thought tekken was the most popular franchise after street fighter but I guess it doesn't really matter in tournaments. What is smash 4 like competitive wise? I watched a bit of it at CEO but it wasn't that exciting to watch for me, prefer watching melee over smash 4.

Nintendo has smash, a classic, and ps4 has street fighter, also a classic. Add in mortal kombat, also a classic, and Tekken, another classic, to the ps4 and Sony becomes the clear winner (not counting the other fighting games)

But you gotta consider what are the biggest names in fighting games when you consider something the "home" of them.  PS has gotten Street FIghter exclusive, but the next biggest name in the fighting genre (and gaining popularity) is Smash Bros.

Hard to consider something the "home" of a genre when it's missing the second biggest name in the genre.

When the second biggest is on a console with less than 10M and that in the end will have less than 1/6 of PS4 it's hard to say PS4 isn't the home of the genre for all purpouses... even more when MK and Tekken will also be on PS4 but not on WiiU.

duduspace11 "Well, since we are estimating costs, Pokemon Red/Blue did cost Nintendo about $50m to make back in 1996"

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

“Sony have been great partners, they have the ambition of making sure that the PlayStation 4 is the home of fighting games, and we’re there to support them, and it’s a wonderful collaboration between both our companies,” he concluded.

In an interesting note, it appears that Sony has helped Capcom developer cross-platform functionality:

“And they’re able to help us out on a technical side of things,”he said. So this is the first time we’re able to pull off cross-platform play; that’s going to unite our community to a centralized player base, and it’s going to be essential for how we manage our competitive scene moving forward."

I hope Sony does the same for Virtua Fighter, I need a Virtua Fighter.

In the meantime we have a nice start with:
Street Fighter V
Guilty Gear Xrd
Skull Girls

Yeah, I can't count how many times people have said "I'm waiting to pick up a PS4 until Skull Girls, or Guilty Gears comes out". No... That never happens.

The beauty of options. Whether your game is popular or not, if it's not smash bros or killer instinct, it's on ps4. Want a new fighting game, and the ps4 has the most options

This mission has been achieved a LONG time ago. PS has had the fighting genre on lock pretty much since they came into the business. Even with 360 getting a lot of fighters there versions didnt come close to Sony's in terms of games sold. Hell I would go so far to say the PSP had a better fighting library than its competitor probably the best fighting library of a portable system ever.

I don't know why some of yall even bother with bigtakilla, you know what he gonna say.

Well, shit. I didn't even realize this thread was in sony discussion. I didn't even bother with it. He just wants us to acknowledge smash bros as a great fighter.

Then I want the next Darkstalkers exclusively on PS4!!!  #DarkstalkersForPS4 #BuildingTheList

Also a new Power Stone on PS4

Poy Poy 3 on PS4

And... PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale 2

The Bitch is back! And better then ever! #BritneyReturns

SONY Bring them BACK for PS4 and VITA!

The fighting fanbase, as others have pointed out, is bigger on PlayStation than Xbox. I'm happy with Street Fighter V, and there is also Dead or Alive, Mortal Kombat, Guilty Gear and most likely Tekken on the PS4 also. I want a Virtua Fighter game. Also, the PS4 needs a King of Fighters game.
