It's actually a PR for their SF V, without saying PS brand always a home console for fighting genre. And for every other genre as well except FPS maybe.

It may be the only fighter but it's so big on it's own right that it is enough for a fighter freak to want a WiiU. |
It was likely even more so for melee on the gamecube. That was probably the reason people bought a gamecube, haha...
Dance my pretties!

But you gotta consider what are the biggest names in fighting games when you consider something the "home" of them. PS has gotten Street FIghter exclusive, but the next biggest name in the fighting genre (and gaining popularity) is Smash Bros.
Hard to consider something the "home" of a genre when it's missing the second biggest name in the genre.

Third party titles will determine whether a system is a "Home" for that particular genre.
There's loads of other fighting franchises in the mix - the more releases of Street Fighter, King of Fighters, BlazBlue, Guilty Gear, Tekken, Virtua Fighter, Dead or Alive, Mortal Kombat, etc will determine which system will be home of the fighting genre. The fact that there can be re-releases of digital titles for older frozen fighting IPs such as Rival Schools, Darkstalkers, Soul Calibur, etc will also help choosing which system will be "home" of the fighting genre. |
If you say so.

Are you actually saying that the WiiU is home of the fighting genre? And that as long as Smash is on a Nintendo console - no other system is able to become "Home" of the fighting genre xD |
No, that would be taking out the biggest name in fighting games. I'm saying the genre has too many console exclusives on different machines of the biggest titles to consider one the "home" of the genre.

Your talking about one against a dozen. I'm sorry but ps4 will be the home of fighters.smash is fun but it's not the only one around.

Isn't that tekken?

Nope. http://evo.shoryuken.com/ (Check the title that's so big they had to have 2 games out of the franchise, and even then it's so popular they have to close registration for new competitors.
(Hint: It isn't Tekken)

A game doesn't have to be competitive to be popular, just look at wii sports. Tekken is a very well known franchise, combine it with mortal kombat, and that does have more reach than smash.
The ps4 is literally missing smash and killer instinct and that's it. It's safe to say ps4 is the home for fighters. Smash bros and killer instinct are just the outliers.
Protendo said: “Sony have been great partners, they have the ambition of making sure that the PlayStation 4 is the home of fighting games, and we’re there to support them, and it’s a wonderful collaboration between both our companies,” he concluded. In an interesting note, it appears that Sony has helped Capcom developer cross-platform functionality: “And they’re able to help us out on a technical side of things,”he said. So this is the first time we’re able to pull off cross-platform play; that’s going to unite our community to a centralized player base, and it’s going to be essential for how we manage our competitive scene moving forward." I hope Sony does the same for Virtua Fighter, I need a Virtua Fighter. In the meantime we have a nice start with: |
Yeah, I can't count how many times people have said "I'm waiting to pick up a PS4 until Skull Girls, or Guilty Gears comes out". No... That never happens.
