Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Digitimes: Nintendo NX will be released in 2016.

Nintendo has no established brand presence or background of marketing sway in the health/wellness market, I don't think they would bet on 20 million orders for that. Beyond that Digitimes knows their consoles pretty well, I don't think they'd get a game console confused for a sleep sensor or something similar.

20 million was however at one time basically their standard yearly shipment for GBA + GameCube. So if NX is a line of a game hardware (both portable and home), then that part makes sense.

Even with the 3DS + Wii U, the first year 3DS shipment was just under 14 million in 12 months or so? Wii U was about 4-5 million in its first 12 months I think. So there you go -- that's about 20 million, so you can see why Nintendo might have settled on that number.

Also another interesting bit from the article, Macronix is one of the suppliers expecting orders for the new system.

Macronix makes 3DS cartridges for Nintendo. So say bye bye to discs (most likely), but this has been predicted here for a while, it's one of the few thing Rol and I agree on.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees! Game Cartridges baby!

Now Im hopeing the console has 2 lines (portable & small homeconsole) that both use cartridges.

Yeah soundwaveeeeeeeee!Congratulations, rule out completely that the report might be false...

Digitimes is fairly reliable and well connected. Nintendo will likely come out tomorrow and deny the report, but it's probably true. Denial is the first stage of acceptance.

Because it says what you want to hear?

Don't you see that the report mentions that Nintendo announced in March their plan to release NX in 2016,while they never did that?

Digitimes isn't some stupid fan site or "Nintendo Hut" or something like that. It's a tech industry news outlet, they called a lot of the PS4 and XBox One stuff while they were in development too. They have sources inside parts suppliers. There would be nothing to leak if Nintendo wasn't actively going out and preparing their supply partners to start getting ready for new hardware.

Article seems fake. Only the fact that NX will release in 2016 seems right imo.

Like I said, Digitimes is quite credible, also the list of partners they've cited there in the article do match up with Nintendo, several of them have worked with Nintendo in the past (ie: Macronix, PixArt, etc.).

20 million shipment target for the 1st year is massive, that heavily suggest a portable hybrid or multi-form factor line of hardware.

The article also mentions Nintendo has a time line for perhaps a summer 2016 (July) launch (Japan?).

That indicates to me again that this is a portable or portable centric platform which replaces both the 3DS and Wii U.

I totally agree.

I think that NX is afordible portable that can be connected on TV.

And if it will work with WiiU pro controller - it will be just perfect.

Actually looking at it again, and I had to estimate a bit because the fiscal year Nintendo uses doesn't allign perfectly with a full calendar year of Jan-Dec, but even when I didn't include the final quarter for both 3DS and Wii U, this is what they basically shake out as:

3DS shipped approximately 15 million units in its first 12-13 months.

Wii U shipped approximately 5.86 million units in its first 12-13 months.

The if NX is supposed to be a line of portable + home console that plays the same games ... then 20 million part orders for year 1 isn't actually unreasonable.

It would basically be the same as the 3DS + Wii U first years combined.

The Health and Welness market is far bigger than the Games Market and 20 million orders is rather on the small side for that market. To put into perspective 20 million for the first in the game market it took the PS4 and the Wii over a year to achieve and those are consider adnormal. The sear size of the order points to this being in a different market and the only other thing we know about is the QoL platform.

Fake.. no seriously.. fake.

It's a bigger market perhaps in some ways but next to the likes of say Nike, Nintendo is unproven and small potatoes. Given how conservative Nintendo is, I doubt they would make 20 million of anything without any indication from the market that they would like such a product. For every one break out health/fitness product there are 4-5 that flop.

See my breakdown above for the Wii U and 3DS. If you combine their first year shipments, it basically comes out to about 20 million. So if NX is the fusion/multi-platform concept, then 20 million would basically be just in line with what the 3DS and Wii U did (albiet they didn't launch together).

Some seem to think so but quite frankly never heard of them and I googled their credibility and I say its fake.
