MS/Ninty fans, what would you think if your company did it?

I still wouldn't support it. Microsoft is a huge company with almost a $100bn in cash. Nintendo is much smaller but its still a big company with cash. If either company wanted to test out new ideas or products, then there are other ways of doing market research. That is what businesses have been doing for hundreads of years. Leave crowdfunding for small businesses which can't afford things themselves.

I agree with some of your points. But there is also a lot of good points mentioned in the points.

Crowdfunding was supposed to give a chance to anyone with a great idea to develop said idea. Of course that implies you don't have the resources to do it.

Big corporations doing crowdfunding are only looking to exploit it. To have customers pay most, if not all of the dev costs while the publishers reap the benefits and the devs are hardly paid.

It is too easy for publishers to make projects hostages of the system. I can easily see CapCom putting Operation Raccoon City 2 on crowdfunding then telling the fans they are gauging interest in the RE series and a Resident Evil 8 crowdfunding won't happen unless Operation Raccoon City 2 crowdfunding is a success.

Popularity isn't equal to quality, and popular IPs can easily overshadow new ones. Many interesting ideas are going to be buried in favor of crowdfunding the hundred Naruto fighter which is exactly the same as the 99th but now Naruto has a new form with extra tails.

Pandoras Box has been opened. Expect many other Companies to exploit crowdfunding too.

I take it that you didn't read the OP. You're talking about games which have nothing to do with this.

Probably because I am talking about hypotetical scenarios (hint: the games I mentioned don't even exist)?  You on the other hand seem unable to see outside the box and the posible ramifications that can come from this venue. Unable to see "the OP" with a critical eye.

It doesn't matter if Saint Sony is offering the most honorable and fair crowfunding platform ever. Other companies will be looking at it, taking notes. Studying how successful this venture is with particular emphasis on how much advantage Sony can take from its fans.  If they see they can get away with their own crowfunding shegganigams they will jump on the bandwagon using whatever crowfunding platform is available to them, or making their own. And lets be honest here, we are talking about Sony and its fans. The outcome is obvius.

“Simple minds have always confused great honesty with great rudeness.” - Sherlock Holmes, Elementary (2013).

"Did you guys expected some actual rational fact-based reasoning? ...you should already know I'm all about BS and fraudulence." - FunFan, VGchartz (2016)

I'm unsure what everyone is up in arms for. I think this empowers the consumer.

Scale seems to be the factor that is putting most people off. I don't get that; all the same benefits are there. What do I care how much money a company has. If a practice benefits me in any way, I'm happy.

On another note, I thought Tamron's post was both edifying and bang on.

Btw that one product has achieve over 150% of its funding goal while everyone was complaining. Lol

This seems like this could really help both Sony and the consumer, and we could see some great innovations later on.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

After reading the OP and Tamron's excellent example/explanation of how the platform will work, I'm all for something like this. If it means more new innovative products then why the hell not?

yea their multi-device-remote HUIS still has 49 days to go but 318 of 1600 maximum (maybe they'll increase that amount if demand stays strong) have already been sold/preordered meaning it's certainly going into production

That remote is cool, I hope they bring this program to the west soon.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

I wouldn't be fine with it, regardless of what side it was on. It would have me feeling upset that a company would need crowdfunding to test the waters for products, or at least have me feeling suspiscious of the idea, unless it was proven to to work out for everyone.

This is not the twilight zone where the worst case scenario will likely happen. Again, games have diddly squat to do with this.

You say that I don't see the ramifications but I do. On the otherhand, I'm sure sony and other companies see the likely consquences if they try to use crowdfunding to fund every little product, idea or project. They ultimately answer to consumers. It's not like I have faith that sony or other companies will always do right. I just believe that they'll be smart when playing with a loaded gun and not point it at themselves. Ask MS about their DRM policies in '13 and how that worked for them.

Also, Sony is no saint but it does not have the kind of reputation to suggest that they'll try to screw people over on crowdfunding.

in the same sense you don't see the good that will likely come from this because apparantly companies are the boogie man that hunt children at night and kick kittens.
