Forums - Sony Discussion - Prediction: PS5 will run at 4k

I would be happy with a PS5 running at 1440P but with everything else graphically maxed out ( Textures etc. ) and running at a stable 60 FPS for most games. 4K television screens just aren't going to be a thing for a while and next gen consoles can do without outputting their games at that resolution.

I just bought a 4K samsung 50" with upscaling for $937.  By 2019 they won't even sell 1080p TVs anymore.

As a little reminder, the PS3 and 360 launched 720p gaming when most people still using 480p TVs.

I believe it can but I don't think they would. I expect all games to run at 1080p 60fps with the PS5. And a lot of extra processing eye candy.

I may be crazy, but I don't think when looking at screens from +8ft away having anything more than 1080p is worth it.

Marketing and competition will have them talk up 4k and all that, and we would have a situation where u can run the game at 4k/30fps at medium settings or 1080p/60fps at high/ultra settings.

2560x1440 + 60fps games? anyone?

They're still selling HD Ready TV's. I'm sure they'll be selling Full HD TV's for quite a while longer. 1440P is their best option. People will with 1080P screens will get a massive performance and graphical ( due to increased Textures and so on ) increase over the PS4 and those with a 4K Tv will also enjoy a good bump in resolution from 1080P to 1440P. It's the best chocie for Sony when dealing with Performance, Graphics and Price.

No one has a 1440p TV. That's a monitor thing I believe.

PS5 will probably have 980 equivalent in 2019. 4K will definitely happen, 980 can easily do 4k 30fps and we're not even factoring in dat console optimisation.

If you were talking about launching the PS5 on Today's hardware - Sure. However, we are not talking about launching in 2015,2016,2017 or probably even 2018.

If they expect the PS5 to last into the mid to late 2020's it will be 4K ready - with enough power to alternatively run advanced morpheus games.

This prediction, nope.

At the very least, 1080p will be the budget TVs. You can still easily find 720p TVs on the market yet 1080p has been around for like a decade.

They could do 2560x1440 native with upscaling to 4k. Heck, my budget TV has 4K upscaling already (and MS is investing millions to convince people that 900p and 1080p are the same... so 1440-2080 probably would't be that hard of a sell.
