Forums - Gaming Discussion - Games That You Thought Would Be Worse/Better

I thought dying light would be worse. If you like super Nintendo games, try dying light. I know it sounds weird because of the way the game, but trust me. At least when it comes to feel, it nails that aspect. Feels incredible to play.

Tales Of Symphonia Dawn Of The New World. People said Emil was unbearable, I cared about him more than I did for any other character in both Symphonia games. Tenebrae was cool too, Marta is a hoe. It was honestly... An awesome sequel! I found the battle system to be improved over the original, the monsters were more useful the other human party members, Zelos' "bitch!" Shout to Alice was PRICELESS and unexpected.

Final Fantasy X, it was much worse than I thought it would be. I ended up disliking everyone but Lulu and Khimari. Plot was ok, but poorly paced. The two main villians were so underwhelming, battle system was great but enemies were broken, specially that freaking blue Malboro. One thing is a difficulty setting which makes you use your head and come up with strategies, other thing is unfair and cheap (ambushed! Enemy used bad breath, all your party members are confused, poisoned, blind, engaged, and they'll kill each other without giving you a chance to do anything). To this day, I think Yuna and Titus were so bland and annoying, I didn't feel anything for them. The ending was also so disappointing, I expected something more emotional (bitches were crying because that? Go play Fragile and cry until your eyes are dry, that's how you make people cry).I DID LIKE the game, I spend over 60 hours with It, I liked grinding, and some of the tracks in the OST are simply wonderful.

I thought Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne was going to be generic and boring, then I made research and was enticed to buy it... Turns out I spent over a hundred hours with it, and I LOVED IT.

When I read about all the compromises that XBox's puny 64MB had forced on Thief III also in the PC version, I thought I wouldn't have liked it very much, then I got it in budget eddition and to my surprise, despite hating shortcomings, compromises, a few minor dumbing-downs and flaws, I ended up liking it very much, I don't consider it a masterpiece like Thief I and the even better Thief II, but it's still a very good game, without the levels split in parts it would be excellent, and it even has a survival horror level, The Cradle, that many consider better and scarier than many true horror games (Thief I, had one too, The Bonehoard, that was very good, but not as The Cradle, although the whole game was better than Thief III overall).
Another game that I liked more than what I expected from reviews is Temple of the Elemental Evil.
Initially I didn't like Throne of Darkness controls, but when I grasped it I liked the game very much.
and Gothic series was a wonderful surprise, I didn't even know that it existed, then I got the first title cover mounted with a gaming mag and I immediately liked it, then I bought Gothic II with its expansion, excellent, I'm playing it now, and Gothic III, that I read it's not as good, but neither bad, eventually I'll play it too, although now, when I'll finish Gothic II and Morrowind + Bloodmoon and Tribunal expansions, I want to start playing The Witcher.
Fallout 2 was a nice surprise too, I didn't think I'd have liked its settings, but I did.

inFamous SS: Thought it would be better. The opening was great. Looked great, played great, etc. Immediately after, when you're introduced to the meat of the game, it suddenly became a boring, generic mess. Very repetitive and lacking in creativity. Wanted it to be the "next gen experience" but ended up just regretting the purchase.

The Order: Thought it would be worse. Granted, I still haven't finished it but the game looked good and played pretty good, too. A little light on content, from what I understand but not a bad game at all.

I thought the Last of Us would be worse, had little faith in it even with all the hype, now its one of my all time favorites

I thought The Last of Us, Twilight Princess, Uncharted 1 and Wind Waker were going to be better. They were all average to me.

I thought A Link Between Worlds, Fire Emblem: Awakening, splatoon, and skyward sword were going to be worse. I didn't think A Link Between worlds was going to be that great because it was a handheld zelda. It ended up blowing me away to become my favorite Zelda game by far. I bought Fire Emblem: Awakening on sale one day not thinking much of it. This game went on to be one of my favorite games ever, causing me to want to play every other game in the series. I ended up playing and beating all the american Fire Emblem games a few times after that and now the series is one of my favorites. I had little expectations for Splatoon and ended up impulse buying it day one and I'm glad I did. I thought Skyward Sword's motion controls would be a huge turn off for me because I hate motion controls. The motion controls were indeed pretty terrible, but the game was still pretty great allowing me to ignore the motion controls sorta.

Zombi U, was better than I thought due to the reviews I read. Might play it again. I heard they were supposed to make a new one does anyone know what is going on with that?
