The supreme court has far too much unchecked power.

Not changed all that much. I knew they were trying to expand their power and influence and this was just the next thing from them.

If they overturn Citizens United then I'd have a much more favorable view as that decision still baffles me.

Eh, this ruling didn't bother me, but they have their moments when they reach too far. I don't like the whole process of appointing justices and I think that is part of the problem. They try to sneak in justices with as much bias as possible. The only two justices I really respect are the two swing vote justices that let themselves be open minded...

I feel like the Supreme Court is on a liberty kick. By saying that people have the right to abortions, by ruling in favor of gun rights, by ruling in favor of gay marriage. It feels like the Supreme Court is interested in protecting our civil liberties lately.

no, next will be the right to marry for corporations, because they are the last people who arent allowed to marry people like themself.

Honestly, gay marriage is a fairly minor issue for me. I'm happy for gay people, and I see no reason why they shouldn't be married, but it doesn't have a tremendous influence over my life. Honestly, it shocks me that 4 justices voted against it.

I'm far more concerned about the absolutely disastrous citizens united decision, which, as opposed to gay marriage, actually is a threat to our democracy.

Wouldn't that violate anti-trust laws? :P

@OP I am an anti-statist so obviously I am not a fan of a monopolic court system. However, the judicial system would remain pretty similar without the state, in my opinion, and it is much more voluntary/participatory than other parts of the state ( don't make me laugh if you mention "voting.")

What you're describing is pretty much a merger, which is completely legal*
