That logic is easy to beat. Normal Mario is the small guy and he can turn into Super Mario by touching a mushroom. In most of the 3D Mario platformers Mario is in a permanent "Super" state as he can't get smaller, even if he gets hit. Therefor those games are more deserving of the "super" prefix than the original 2D games.

Also, if we're going to thread manuals as canon does that mean Samus is a guy?
