Forums - Gaming Discussion - How Sony Won Call of Duty DLC Exclusivity Away From Microsoft

The 3 biggest 3rd party games this holiday (COD, AC, and Star Wars [both Infinity and Battlefront]) are ALL going to get PS4 saturation bombing advertisement. Couple with unique downloadable games, Until Dawn, Tearaway, and Uncharted Trilogy and you've got yourself one big Fall with all months and demographics covered.

This holiday will be very interesting with MS's typical ad blitz, Halo, Forza (every year so not that big a boost probably), Tomb Raider, and something I think I'm forgetting (didn't they have some other exclusive coming Sep-Dec?) and their huge discounts (already have huge bundles even though we're in the Summer) vs. all that PS4 momentum, third party ads supporting PS4, and possible $50 price cut (at least better bundles than last year)

well  what happens if AC is broken like last year, cod is bad like every year and the new star wars movies are like the last star wars movies?

Here's a thought, now bear with me. What if, and this might be a big IF for some people, what if MS simply didn't renew the deal with Activision? :-O is this even possible?

Cool story. DLC exclusivity and other exclusive content is one of the crappiest practice in gaming right now. Atleast no one clapped when they were announcing this or the Destiny thing.

All the publishers are doing is screwing their own customers.

all that matters to me about the COD deal, is that the time that COD gets at E3 wont be time that could have been used for something else, if the deal means that Sonys conference will last an extra 10 minutes so they can show that off then im OK, and at least they didnt opened the conference with that this year, which is great.

Too bad CoD eSports will still be done on Xbox. As the controller is far superior.  But its great for Sony.  They gave up on 2015 for the most part other than 3rd party deals which will be fine.

thats actually what happened, or what should have happened for this to be possible, there is obviously a contract for this deals that needs to be renewed after some time, now the thing is did MS didnt wanted to renew it or was Activision the one that saw more potential for this deal somewhere else?. who knows...

Sony is the hot cheerleader this generation. Everyone wants to get in bed with her.

I'd like to think Activision was more open to make a deal elsewhere if things weren't looking too well at the start for XB1.  CoD seemed like a huge help for 360 I just can't see MS passing this up again.  But like you said, who knows...

M$ didnt wanted to renew because it didnt worked.  its a bad deal for activision, sony was in a much better position than m$ and got a better deal i guess.  Activision doesnt care if a game is sold on the ps4 or xbone, and they dont care who pays for the PR.  it doesnt realy matter to them if there is a xbox logo or a ps logo in the ad, because people dont care. a xbox cod ad works as good as a ps branded one or one without branding.
