European market is big,... like as big or bigger than the american one.
Always good to have a big market, and have a 90% marketshare there.

MS need to do something drastic to take back market share in europe, its too big a market to just let it slip away.

Well, X360 did decently in these parts, but there was only one reason: Piracy.

It was a miracle to find a non-modded console, and the original game sales were probably counted on one hand.

And it is not even illegal, official stores advertise them freely. Like this:

http://sophoslab.hr/modifikacije-i-servis/86/x360-ixtreme-firmware-lt-30-ltu-12-update-firmware-a/5340.html

And many more...

If XOne decides to let modders in and pirate games, I'm sure the sales will pick up. But now, there is nothing MS can do...

I always thought that one of the things that these companies could do was to free the online multiplayer from their subscription services. If MS does that it would get a lot of good publicity and could compete once again at the eyes that don't want the subscriptions. If Sony did that, they would throw MS away from the european and japanese markets, and probably in the US too.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

"In most of continental Europe, it's over 90%" I guess that means we can assume the average is somewhere in the low to mid 80's range. Extremely impressive. Unless NA magically grows into this super huge gaming market, and PS4 suddenly just stops selling there, there's not a chance in hell any other console will compete with PS4 for the foreseeable future.

70-90 In continental Europe. Here in the UK it's more closer, but still PS4 comfortably.

It would be even higher throughout Europe if MS didn't launch with the FIFA bundle at launch, and a sprinkle of exclusive FIFA content.

PS, PS2, Gameboy Advance, PS3, PSP, PS4, Xbox One

Xbox One did release around 10 months later in several european countries. So it was either a PS4 or nothing as far as consoles go.

"The wisdom of 13 vs 33" :D

But seriously, nobody forced MS to do that, so tough luck for them, give the middle finger to tons of european markets and you get the middle finger back.

Yeah I agree, it's their own fault. My country was one of those where it was released 10 months laters, but I had decided to get a PS4 beforehand. So no harm done, at least not to me. I do know some friends of mine that were dissapointed by it and they got a PS4 instead.

Some countries did get the XB1 though before official release, here in The Netherlands as an example. Mediamarkt Germany simply moved a part of their Germany stock to The Netherlands. Also those European markets who got the XB1 later aren't even that big.

Yeah I do remember seeing some Xbox Ones in MM and on their website here in NL. Although there were some issues with warranties where you would get your warranty at first , but they changed that later or something. These countries probably have the highest PS4 marketshare percentages.

Is this PS vs Xbox market-share or full market-share? I have a hard time believing they have that much full market-share, particularly in countries like France where Nintendo are decently strong as well.

Looks like just PS4 vs. XB1. Can't link it now, but someone on NeoGaf pointed out that 70% in France is pretty much impossible at this stage if you include Wii U.

Normally, i would say this is a bad thing, but given how rich the reigns of the PS1 and PS2 were to the consumer, i can't help but be pleased and await great new things coming in the software development front in this newfound mostly unified viability for the products. Hopefully a renassaince of Japanese development and the japanese market and a more balanced market overall in terms of east and western styles.

I will admit, given the last E3 i am excited to see what comes next. If only we could drop the gimicky (not)VR and not waste time with that though. Oh well... i guess not all dreams can come true.

Not really that amazing, lol. When in most european countries a gaming console is referred by dafault as a playstation, you'd expect this type of domination. In my counrty last gen, the Xbox had I'm guessing a 20% share of the console market compared to the PS3's 30%. ( The WII had at least a 50% share lol, everyone had a WII ). Nowadays I'd wager that the PS4 has a 90% marketshare ( Including both XBO and WIIU ). Before the seveth gen you'd be hardpressed to find an OG Xbox or Gamecube ( Sony domination was huge back then ).
