Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The NX Set-Up That Makes Everyone Happy.

Eh, I dunno.

NX should just be one thing, not both a handheld and console.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

i like the idea of NX being multiconsole replacing both wii U and 3ds.

but the handheld is too expensive.
also, there are no buttons? im ok with the ideia of a small tablet, but it must have easy attachable buttons and also be confortable to play with.

The "Mario" version I definitely see happening, Nintendo will move toward a Sony-ish type premium HH offering. It will be at least the power of Wii U and likely more. Luigi version, could happen a couple yrs down the road.

The main question for me, is the "Bowser" iteration. This really would address the userbase & power issue for 3rd parties, & now those Ninty fans have no excuse not to support those games being "inferior versions" etc.. There is a (wrongful) perception that Ninty fans don't support third party games. That may be true for NintendOnly owners, but a sizeable group of us out there that do - on the other systems.

Hopefully Nintendo figures out how to offer a premium version home console, yet the games could be scalable and work with the likely most popular version (hh). The last 2 gens, Nintendo has cheated itself and its fans by not being able to host up to par versions of major 3rd party titles. EVEN IF THEY SELL THE WORST (ie Gamecube), it should still be able to have that option as a consumer. To me its insane that a primary video game company like Nintendo, is missing so many titles it should have by default.

It would have buttons and all that. Basically like the Wii U controller (in form factor) but thinner and not as much wasted border space.

Yeah the "Bowser" version is basically the solution to the Wii problem ... the Wii was a tremendous success, but because there was a such a power gap, MS/Sony were able to amass all the core gamers to themselves.

If NX takes off though, users could get introduced into the ecosystem by say the the portable or cheap mini-console, and then they get hooked.

But the gamers who do like a little Mario Kart or Metroid, but don't want full 1080P graphics with the highest end lighting/textures and anti-aliasing ... well now they don't have to give up Mario Kart and go to Sony/MS. There's an option for them too.

And honestly you're not really beholden to any of these form factors either. If the Bowser sells way more than the Luigi, then maybe you phase out the Luigi. If the Luigi sells way more than the expensive Bowser, then maybe Bowser gets the hook.

a 32 gb sd card is about $20 so unless nintendo stops collecting royalties from 3rd parties you can guarentee no third party support at all.

also, regardless of media type mandating scalibility of all software across all platforms will also kill any non indie third party support because it isn't so simple as just changing resolution to get a AAA title to run on a platform with 1/4 the flops and memory.

Actually I can find 32GB cards for cheaper than that, and that's what you pay at retail. The manufacturing cost is more like $1-$2.

And PC games scale up and down with PC cards that have 1/4 the flops all the time. Especially when one version (on handheld) can run at say 960x540 resolution, no AA, scaled back lighting/shadows/textures.

Tacking together three GPUs will not give you three times the horsepower of a single chip. Besides that, that's asking for some serious complicated development. Not exactly the way to gain third party interest. Micro stutter is a massive problem with such setups. I don't see any possible scenario with more than one GPU. It is expensive as hell and brings along one shitload of problems. It is really only an option for Power PC users who know exactly what they are doing. Otherwise, the results are not what your average console buyer would expect. Especially in combination with bad TVs, don't get me started.

That said, what about the CPU? The PowerVR GT7900 is only a GPU and is most likely to be found in the next iPad. While the PowerVR chips work in theory with x86, the results are horrible to this day (at least with earlier chips, I didn't see any GT7900 tests in this regard.) So Nintendo would almost have to got with ARM (or by some miracle develop a perfect PowerVR x86 driver themselves) which would be also bad for third parties. I mean it could be that Nintendo just doesn't care about third party anymore, sure. But that would contradict rumours of third parties who got shown NX behind closed doors and stuff like that. If Nintendo would care so little, they wouldn't be making such an effort.

Official member of VGC's Nintendo family, approved by the one and only RolStoppable. I feel honored.

ARM would likely be the CPU. Third parties are familar with it too, Nintendo has been using ARM for like 15 years now, and they seem to beat everyone onpower consumption to performance ratio by a country mile. Also they are cheap.

There are dummy non-rewritable cards thar cost pennies to manufacture per GB.
