Forums - Gaming Discussion - Female Leads In Games

I can't really think of any games like that. All the ones I've played or seen with female leads look like they fit in to the game.

I never see it either. The only time it would be true is if it was thrown out by the characters over and over again, in dialog. Clemantine is the lead in Walking Dead season 2. And that was naturally done. Since she was the only character left at the end of season 1. The only rare times I do see it, is Saints Row. But it's in the more of a lazy to bother to give proper animations. The team just uses male posture on the female lead. GTA Online doesn't bother to give the women any different posture in the back room during lap dances. Other than that. Either gender can be badass, asshole, or emotional.

Well most games have male leads just because they do, not like the main character genre matters much 99% of the time. It just so happens that amazing things, like gainning super powers, being the chosen one, being absurdly skilled at firearms etc can happen to both male and female so its nice ot see games having female leads nowadays, an even split would be ideal.

agreed, there's been PLENTY of male leads, the females are a good change of pace. I personally perfer female lead anyway, Nariko, Samus, Lara, heck in resident evil i prefer being the females.

There are games with female leads?

Eww, girls have coodies.

I feel like some games have female leads for the sake of having female leads, and not because they think that should be the direction of the game. Not Tomb Raider, but perhaps something like that Dinosaur Robot game  that was announced at E3. Like to make it more "unique", and like it is breaking gender stererotypes like guys being the hero.

I dunno, it just seems like that to me.

You've gathered that without knowing the first thing about the story?  Do you have anything at all upon which to base that conclusion?

That aside, we know that for years we've been getting male character leads just for the sake of having male character leads.  So what if someone is pitching an idea for a female character because it's a bit different?

My personal opinion is that I want the final product to be true to the writer's vision.  If they wrote the story around the character being male then I want it to stay that way unless there is a good reason to change.  Likewise, I don't want a female character to be changed just because a businessman at the top is scared it will affect sales.

Most female leads just feel so unnecessary like Remember Me and yes that Horizons game. Othertimes they are downright offputting like Bayonetto and

Alien Isolation and TLOU (dlc) is the only female lead that makes sense in recent years.

Yeah like Squid girl, females shouldn't squirt like that, it's all this new age nonsense.

I think it was perfect for Splatoon. That game without any females wouldn't make any sense.

Can't wait for The Zelder Scrolls 3: Breath of The Wild Hunt!

Horizon felt forced indeed.

During pre-history females usually collected fruit, vegetables, etc. while the men hunted.

I agree completely. It reminds me of that time I played a game where the main character was black, like wtf, way to break the realism to be "unique".

It is just based on a hunch, really. It just feels like that to me. Not grounded upon evidence. So I'm not certain, but it just seems like that for me

But I agree with the bolded part. It would suck to have an idea in your head, and when you want to make it happen, you're forced to change something you don't want to change.

Fucking hilarious, even when they do have female protags, it's not good enough. Absolutely hysterical. And yeah, I guess I'll be the only one to point out that the female protag that's supposedly been shoe horned in, is White and a Red Head. Absolutely the minority female anyone wanting to cash in on this 'controversy' would pick, right?
