Forums - Gaming Discussion - Mario maker director comments on zelda maker idea: it would be a huge challenge to make

I don't see the appeal of a Zelda maker.

One of the question in a recent interview with the mario maker directors asked him about zelda maker and gets what he said.

If Super Mario Maker is a success, will it open the door for a comparable Zelda Maker?

Zelda Maker might be a challenge to make I think. Personally, making Super Mario Maker that was a challenge in itself, and we hope that it's a success, so thank you for saying that, but I think that might be a difficult task.

Sounds like a thanks for suggesting that, but it's not gonna happen.

Actually, given the choice of words, it sounds to me like "We've been discussing this internally for a while". Describing it as "difficult" and a "challenge" rather than saying things like "I'm not even sure how we'd do that" or "I don't think that would have comparable appeal" suggests to me that they've already spent a bit of time thinking about it.

I can certainly see why it would be a challenge. The graphical styles of each of the games is a little too different, in terms of their impact on gameplay. 2D Mario is 2D Mario, in terms of basic gameplay - map structure stays basically the same. Zelda 1, LttP, and LBW (which would be the only styles suited to this kind of "maker") each have their own design elements, that make them different from each other.

Plus, the overworld map is a key part of those Zelda titles... do you expect them to make an overworld editor? How would the story elements be handled (Zelda has significantly more story than Mario)? Would it just be a dungeon game? If so, how do you keep the boss battles from just being the same standard boss battles?

I don't doubt that they've been talking about it. But the challenges are as I described above, and it won't happen unless they figure out how to resolve them. I do think it's possible to do it, but he's right, it'll be "difficult".

It can be done.

A Mario Maker is a great idea.

A Zelda Maker is stupid as fuck.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

I don't either really, but I guess one my issues is that I also can't really see what a Zelda maker would be or look like.

Sounds a lot cooler than 2D Mario Maker tbh.

I would love a Zelda Maker. Original Zelda, LTTP, Minish Cap, Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks, and LBTW.

Could be done.

A 2d Zelda maker is possible but I don't see the appeal. It would also be more complicated to edit a good game/dungeon, since zelda isn't stage based like 2d mario.

Zelda 2 maker would be pretty easy...but I'm not sure people would respond to it the same way. Something they could do, though, is to incorporate Zelda motifs (and metroid motifs, etc) in future Mario maker games. It would basically allow you to create nes remix levels. I think it'll happen, and they might even tie it into amiibo.

there is way too much in top down Zelda to make a maker out of it that is why it would be a challenge and not really worth the time in the end

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

Why is everyone saying a Zelda maker would suck? I think it would be super fun. I got a feeling Nintendo will be making a bunch of "Maker" games if this one is successful.

Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.
