Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Reality check: The NX MUST be successful.

While I do think the NX needs to be successful for Nintendo to continue home consoles, I don't think they will take a drastic step into the 100% mobile direction ever. I think they would sooner put their new triple AAA games on other companies devices (Xbox Two or Playstation 5 or whatever) and make all the profit from selling games without needing to take losses/spend development money and time on hardware.

Honestly, I think the most profitable future Nintendo could have would be to go 3rd party and develop for both mobile and consoles (though they should keep their handheld devices). But they won't do that (for now) because they believe that their devices are the best way to experience their games.

If the NX fails and Microsoft or Sony offered for Nintendo to develop their own controllers as well as transfer miiverse over to one of those devices, I bet Nintendo would be tempted.

If they make the console which games and developers want then it will be success but if they try to make the console they want then its a fail.

GAMING is not about spending hours to pass/waste our time just for fun,

its a Feeling/Experience about a VIRTUAL WORLD we can never be in real, and realizing some of our dreams (also creating new ones).

So, Feel Emotions, Experience Adventure/Action, Challenge Game, Solve puzzles and Have fun.

PlayStation is about all-round "New experiences" using new IP's to provide great diversity for everyone.

Xbox is always about Online and Shooting.

Nintendo is always about Fun games and milking IP's.

After Wii U no more.... wait to buy the system until after they release their Mario game.
If its not a 3D mario.... no buy.

Nintendo just need to launch the consol with a Mario and zelda from basically day 1.

Thats all it takes, every new console from now on, should launch with mario & zelda day 1.
Then they would get the hype + launch sales numbers that ll attract more game development => more buys ect.

Time for the next Luigis Mansion / Mario Sunshine / Mario 64 / Mario Galaxy's.

Or Google and Apple can persuade them to make console games on their Apple TVs etc and make their smartphone or tablets capable of running portable games with a better controller support.

The console market is in a really confusing point now. Mobile games have cut off a big chunk of the handheld demographic, making the 3DS Nintendo's slowest selling handheld and making the Vita dead in the west, that is undeniable. I really hope Nintendo's next console succeeds, I can't see myself continuing my gaming habits if handhelds die and I have to migrate to mobile.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Of course it hqs to succeed, but I think it will fail, and as you say, will mark Nintendo's exit from the console scene.
But I don't think that would be bad for gaming in general. It would be bad for a small minority of gamers, and the past years have shown that they are not that important for the gaming world. EA, Activision, Ubisoft, Sony and Microsoft are all doing very well without those gamers, and would continue doing well.
If Nintendo were to go under tomorrow, most people wouldn't even notice or care.

I agree, even the PS5 and Xbox Two should launch with mario & zelda day 1. ;)

They should make it a constitutional law like "Every American should have a vacuum cleaner in the basement":

Well, I do hope the system(s) fits whatever criteria Nintendo will use to define what 'success' for the NX means.Sometimes the definition of success is different among different people.

In the end, I hope the system accomplishes the necessary for the company not to feel it´s time to say goodbye to dedicated gaming hw.

You wouldnt buy a PS5 if it also came with Mario 3D?

I think alot of people would like that.

Why do you think consoles are on the way out?... I hear people say this and it makes no sense to me. So many people buy consoles lol I don't get it. Just as many this generation as last and probably more people bought consoles last generation than the one before that.
