Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Reggie: We anticipated that fans would have a negative reaction to Metriod Prime: Federation Force

I change my mind. I don't want Reggie going anywhere. In fact, I think it would be awesome if he took Iwata's place.

this is one of those Nintendo sayings:
People dont know what they want until we give it to them.

No reggie, you cant explain away the 90%+ dislike on youtube for your game.

You saying its just consumers not knowing better, and we should just buy the game and learn to be happy about it...

it just doesnt work that way.

Well Reggie-San, I do respect your decision but there is no possible way you could have anticipated such negativity; rolling off of Other M no less. Such damage control and such deteriorating quality in a much admired and respected franchise isn't doing you or Nintendo any justice.

Just give us Metroid 4 or another great metroid handheld game. That what all gamers, be it Nintendo and fans, would like more than you think.

Why did they attach Metroid to the name if it didn't have samus in the game, not did it have to do with Samus or Metroid. That's like calling a baseball game "Mario's baseball" but without Mario, and some enemies that kinda look like mario enemies...? That sounds like a dumb move on their part...

Nintendo did not do a "real" 3D Metroid for the Wii U because 1) they realized (about the time they released the Wii U) that making HD games took longer and cost more 2) seeing as they knew they were going to be short games for the wii u (especially early on), that they were not going to support it in other ways (by working w 3rd parties, ramping up the VC MUCH faster etc) 3) they decided to skimp in every possible way they could while still being able to act like they were trying

Fro Nintendo to have been able to deliver a real Metroid game by this holiday they would have had to start on it close to launch of the Wii U- They obviously did not, nor did they start on it at any time since then- They did a 2d Donkey Kong instead- a good game but much less time and money to make-
Nintendo decided early on in the Wii U s life cycle to do the least they could and just get by until they were ready for their next console- 3rd parties realized this as well and that is a major reason why they did little to nothing on the Wii U= If Nintendo was not going to support it, that was a good indicator it was not worth their time and resources either-

Nintendo was not anywhere near ready for this generation- but they had to do something and they had to sell it to someone so they did their best used car salesman job and let it rip - They have a loyal following (although a shrinking loyal following) and they took advantage of it

When Nintenod releases a console they believe in, they will act much different toward it than they have the Wii U- Look at the effort they gave to turn around the 3DS- look at what Sony did to turn around the PS3 and MSFT has done to turn around the XB1 now compare those efforts to how Nintendo has responded to the Wii U - totally different-

Maybe if they do have a classic Metroid game in development they should have shown some of it and THEN shown this FF one.

Fans would be like: "we have a new Metroid! There's that other Metroid game as well that doesn't interest me much but oh well, a new Metroid!"

Could have soften the blow perhaps. As I said before in this forum, given the fact that Nintendo fans miss on a lot of third party games it feels like Nintendo must deliver with their every release to try an compensate, so the outcry is a little understandable.

Maybe next Metroid is a NX release and that is why they won't show anything for now, who knows? Possibly Nintendo is already abandoning the WiiU ship for a shiny new NX one. But no way to know for sure until next e3/new WiiU games announcements in the coming months.

That is exactly what they should have done. Did anyone hear any outcry over Fallout Shelter? No, because bethesta said: 'Look, Fallout 4 is on it's way, it's going to be awesome, until then, have fun with this little thing.'

If Nintendo had just so much as teased a new proper console Metroid and then gone on to say: 'Until that arrives, have fun with this, for your Metroid fix!' I think reception would have been much, much better for Blast Ball/Federation Force.

This from IGN interview with Reggie where he adresses what they could improve on based on the Digital event

"In terms of opportunities for improvement… there are games where you need to have hands-on time to really appreciate. Certainly, Metroid Prime: Federation Force is one of those types of games. We anticipated that consumers would say “Where’s Samus?” and “Where’s my traditional Metroid Prime game?” We anticipated that...."

I kind of have my doubts that they thought people would have a negative reaction to the game, Reggie just making things up to make themself sound better. Interesting that he says that he knows we wanted a regular prime game, but they went with this instead. Oh Nintendo.

Do you honestly believe that the same team that makes the epic sifi exploration games is also making a cutesy sports game? Come on... There is no "they made this instead of Metroid prime." Different teams do different games. this didn't waste Metroid prime assets.

Does anyone really think this guy has any power anymore? It's pretty clear now that he doesn't have much influence in any of the company's big decisions.

Then why did they bother showing it if they knew fans wouldn't like it?

Why bother greenlighting it in the first place?

Get Sakamoto to make a 2D Metroid game, I'm sure he can still do that well. He's just not good with 3D games or cinematic story telling. Story wise he should follow the formula of Fusion (inner dialogues during elevator rides and conversations with computer Adam, NOT Metroid: Other M Adam).

I bet they didnt anticipate people hating star fox lol. not all fans but a fair few who wanted the series to evolve beyond a rails shooter.
