My mistake, though you meant like a queue (a line), even then FF7 didn't even have lines, it had distance, sure it was represented as a line but you could place a character on the 'back line' meaning the damage they do is reduced but they take less damage too. Yet you could counter that by adding a materia to a weapon or with character with certain weapons like guns. Cloud with Long Range materia, Barrett and Vincent all on the back line made the game unique. Shame to loose all that, wouldn't you think? BTW, Reno was so cool in that. Placing a shield over your characters which you had to remove by hitting it else that character didn't get a go? Hard to know how they'd translate that well in modern games unless they don't change the combat. |
Not really a shame. It all depends by what those things would get replaced with. I have played FF VII almost every year since it's realease in 1997, and the only things I think are really special about it are the limit breaks, the materias and the summons. All of which are sure to come back in the remake. So I'm really not worried whatever they do with the pacing of the battles. As long as it has strategic elements, which is most likely a given considering the materias, then I'm totally fine.
I want a new take on the game, and feel like I'm discovering it for the first time again. If they stick with everything, that won't be possible. I want the game to feel new. Not the same as I've been playing for years already. I want to have the pleasure of discovering its new systems and features, and the battle system is part of that.
