Forums - Gaming Discussion - What do you want from the FF7 remake?

There was a thread about this on gaf and a ridiculous debate on whether ff7 was a turn based rpg or not.
Pro-tip: It's not, unless you change the default from Active Time Battle.

Anyways, I just want more of everything.
Another secret character, more ultimate-equipment like the secrets weapons littered throughout the game.
Keep it light hearted and fun. More materia, and more materia combos. More challenging fights.
More map secrets and better end-game content with chocobo stuff.

Identical remake. The only addition is to add the Barverly default game options. You want the remake because you love the game. But why would you want to alter its battle system etc. to something else?

I've read this a few times now and since I've never played Braverly Default (worst name ever) I'm not sure what you're suggesting here. Can you enlighten me please? I need to know if I should vigorously oppose your suggestion or enthusiastically support it!

Signature goes here!

As expected, the battle system is going to be a contentious issue. Even though I love the original, I still think they need to change the battle system. The old ATB battle system has aged just as badly as the graphics of the PS1 era and FFVII was one of the worse incarnations of that system. The materia system was great, but effectively all the characters except Aerith were the same. There was very little strategy to the vast majority of fights where you could just spam attack. Even the bosses weren't particularly strategic battles.

Personally, I think SE need to do what Bioware managed to achieve with Dragon Age Inquisition; a hybrid system that incorporates both old school and modern battle systems. It needs a system that can be played as an improved old-school ATB system whilst still giving players the chance to play it as a more modern action RPG. I also think the characters need to be more individual (perhaps having the option to use the old limit breaks as a set of abilities). One thing is for sure though, we need to be able to control all party characters.

I also want:

- The core story to remain the same.

- Some modern improvements to the script... well improved translations at least.

- Keep the materia system, it's part of the lore

- Advent Children graphics (obviously)

- Nods to the Crisis Core storyline (non-essential side quests featuring back story, Angeal and Genesis to perhaps feature briefly, Vincent to have nods to Dirge storyline etc.)

- Make Midgar more explorable

- More equipment, items, summon spells

- More optional bosses to use the new stuff on

- Improved mini games

- Keep the quirkiness!

I doubt anyone that wants a different battle system actually played the original...

I did. Have you played it recently? It's actually not that good, even for an ATB system. It's simplistic at best and the ATB system in general is dated.

Somehow integrating both the grid system with the materia system.

Did you liked Angeal and Genesis ? I didnt liked them, to me the worst of crisis core are these 2 , and after those credits of dirge of cerberus, they wanted to make a sequel with Genesis.

I know they became bad guys but they have their reasons too!

At first I didn't like Angeal either but when Zack fought him and won, look what happened after that. Zack couldn't stop cry even Aerith couldn't calm him either but later on he became more matured. That alone justify my likings to Angeal. Plus who's the real owner of the Buster sword?

Genesis deserved more backstory. Yea he's the main boss in this game but he's different from Sephiroth. That one is really screwed-up especially when he killed Aerith and laughing happily after that. Genesis have never done something unforgivable like that so I still liked him

It will not be easy to make everyone happy.

Not recently, I plan to soon though. Did play some FF8 earlier this year however and for me the ATB system is still miles ahead of what any other RPG has done.

I don't understand how people can say the ATB is dated when FF12, 13, it's sequels and FF14 all used it or a variation anyway. We cannot say is the ATB is dead until a game is made properly with it again and SquEnix just are not doing that.

You know, traditional 2D platforming in this modern gaming 3D era is dated too yet you don't see developers changing the very basis of that gameplay to fit modern times. They just make new games.

I'm still wondering why people want a remake of an FF game but not have tha ATB. You want a game with FF15 gameplay, play that, you want Crisis Core, play that. FF7 should remain with FF7 gameplay.

But then I don't want any extended Universe story involved in FF7, either, leave Crisis Core prequel stuff and DoC sequel stuff out of FF7, it was fine on it's own, still is. Added lore does not help the story at all.

Hmm, pie.

Yeah, by the same logic, if you want FF VII, play FF VII.

FFVIIR won't be FFVII. It will be FFVIIR.

It seems what a lot of people want from this remake is a better coating and nothing else changed. But you guys should get over it already since Nomura already stated that this isn't the approach they are taking for this remake and that he doesn't want to make an other "static" battle system like the original FFVII. For all we know, the new battle system might be better than the original. We'll most likely get fixed about it all when they finally reveal more about the project this next winter.

I do. It's great. I'd love a game where it's pretty much exactly the same just with modern graphics. Wouldn't you? Oh, apparently not.

Isn't that the point of a remake? to have the game we love remade to modern standards? If they chop and change it, then it's not the game we love.
