Sony's support for the game starts and end at assisting in production and marketing of the game.  They are not putting money into any form of development. 

This is in line with what they do with other indie developlers (of which some even release their games on other platforms because Sony has not invested in the actual game).

As Suzuki has said, funding comes directly from KS and only KS. Sony is helping with promoting the game, which is pretty much what they did at their conference: they promotedthe game and its kickstarter.

The game is not being funded solely by kickstarter.

That doesn't mean they'll be funded by Sony. It's an expectation that every studio has a line of credit.

agreed. the shady part is it is a kickstarter but presented on a Sony E3 press conference. so what is Sony's involvement, only to publish a game if it reaches its goal? better to inform the gamers, we need additional funds and sony would support the game and fund half of it or what... better to inform the public that way, rather than be a shady, why it is mentioned in a Sony E3 conference. why not just an in between of any of the conferences, that we have Shenmue 3 as a kickstarter and once we reaches the goal. it would be published on PS4 and PC. that's it..

not sure if it would reach 10m on kickstarter, maybe around 5m.

This kickstarter is over. The damage has already been done. People who do not want the game won. Lets give it a rest.

Looking at articles about Shenmue on other gaming sites and I have noticed that a lot of negativity surrounds the kickstarter now. Whoever stupidly told the media that sony would be funding the game and how that has been twisted into sony funding the entire development of the game has severely hindered the growth of the Kickstarter.

With all this hate towards Sony for no good reason makes me want to support Sony more. Yep. But maybe Sony should go ahead and give funding for development so it would be a console exclusive so true gaming fans will get the game. Obviously, the Sony haters weren't going to support it anyway.

Damn them folks going in on Sony. I mean I guess I understand where they are coming from though. However, it was really unclear of the details (up until now) of what was going on. Then agian, it could be just sour grapes as well.....
