Forums - PC Discussion - Are the "PC Master Race" days over?

For some, the argument will never go away although if they really believed it, no PC gamer would even bother with a debate.

As it's been said, truth: it's all a matter of personal preference when it comes to gaming platforms.

I've done the self built gaming PC when I wanted better performance than consoles could provide, and I paid quite a bit more money in hardware to learn the ins and outs of system building and to end up with a build (I built several while experimenting) where the performance justified the additional costs to say nothing of the time I spent drawing up specs, shopping, building, reconfiguring, overclocking, etc. etc.

I had fun with it as a hobby and that fun had less than 50% to do with gaming on a PC; the rest was learning, building, tinkering, reconfiguring, optimizing, etc.

I'm teaching a friend's kid and nephew how to build a gaming PC this weekend, which has prompted me to go back into pricing and spec mode since I've personally stopped gaming on PC on any meaningful level (rare).

For strictly gaming, I'd still rather play on the PS4. For the price of a $400, soon to be $350 console, that would buy me a good price/performance $330 video card (GTX970) and not much else if I were starting from scratch.

Funny because the article was actually addressing the prioritization of developing a much anticipated AAA game (Arkham Knight) for console, specifically the PS4.

Relevant because as I was drawing up the specs for a new gaming PC, it was brought to my attention that the recommended CPU for Arkham Knight was changed to a Core i7 due to performance problems with the initial release of the game. I had been looking at i5 and even i3 CPUs in the interest of allocating more money into the video card (GTX970) since the build was a fairly limited budget build ($800 range).

Well all I know is I just bought a brand new gaming rig and i'm loving it. I have a PS4/PC combo now and it fits perfect together.

i will say it again and again: it's one thing to develop a 4k 60fps capable gpu but it's a totally different thing to create a AAA game that maxes out said card. and that is especially true when new games are bound by that 60$ pricebarrier. imo high end pc gamers only have 2 options:

1. sacrifice your standards or wait till consoles and maybe even mobile devices catch up to your tech level or
2. get used to paying more for new AAA games

Or enjoy above 60 fps framerates in said game. Or enjoy above 1080p resolutions in said game (no aliasing to be seen.) Or download mods that enhance the visuals? Who cares if a PC game is maxed out or not? There are plenty of linear means to enhance the experience and use up your GPU power.

when you wait. either for a pc port and/or the enhancement made by mods. don't expect 3rd party devs to put effort in an optimal high end pc port on release though. especially not for 60$ or less.

Master race days are over..? Yes.

Welcome the PC God race days.

Honestly, i've always considered the slogan to be frustrating. I say that as someone who spends most of their time on a PC, but at the same time I own all the consoles. Why devoid yourself of experiences out of pettiness? PC Master Race eh? Yeah it's the master of raping my wallet for sure. Don't be petty - take in all experiences.

Mod enhanements (for games that support them) usually happen the week or two of release. Look at FFXIII and Dark Souls. I have no problem waiting a week to play a game. Heck, half my PS3 games didn't work to my standards without patches and I'm sure it is more true for PS4/XBO games. So it's not like consoles avoid this issue either. I really don't care about enhanced ports. The thing about PC's is that you can enhance the port yourself, right out of the box. Developers add an easy feature called scaling the performance and visuals to your platform.

I think there's a big bonus in being able to play all games without ever dropping below 60 fps.

Until consoles are either powerful enough to supply that every time or all the game devs priorities reaching a consistent 60fps that then there will be a big case for the pc master race.

In the end, PC will pretty much always be the superior gaming platforms, with games performing and looking the best on PC, and PC is just an extremely flexible platform overall, with mods, and being able to upgrade hardware rather easily.

However, I kinda do hate the phrase "PC Master Gaming Race." It just sounds silly, IMO.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

It all depends on personal preference. Both platforms ( PC & Consoles ) have their advantages and disadvantages. Neither is a "master race" because neither is better than the other. Therefore we can all live in peace ounce and for all .

Except PC is superior hardware wise.
