Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Splatoon has surpassed 1 Million Sales Worldwide.

That figure includes more than 476,000 physical and digital units sold in the Americas, more than 368,000 sold in Japan, more than 230,000 sold in Europe and an additional 20,000 sold in Australia and New Zealand.

So it's already sold over 1,100,000 copies as we speak. Groundbreaking.

Wow, I'm very surprised and impressed. I was one of those people who thought it would flop.

Could Splatoon be a new staple IP for Nintendo???

Have a nice day...

That's what they want. And if continues to have the great legs it's been having, I think it's a lock that it will be!

It's odd how Nintendo's biggest successes usually fall in the category of "that game you never knew you wanted."  I mean, if you asked people last year what kind of game they wanted a company to make, I don't think anyone would have said "I want a game where you play as a squid-human hybrid using ink weapons to fight octopi!"

Also, I'm impressed that even with the Wii U doing so poorly, they still managed to keep their tradition going of always having one new franchise emerge from each gen.  NES was of course all the core (Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc), SNES had F-Zero and Star Fox, N64 had Smash Bros, GameCube had Pikmin, Wii had Wii Sports and Xenoblade, and now the Wii U brings Splatoon.  And yes, I know I missed some just naming the big hitters :P

I honestly did not expect Splatoon to sell anywhere near this well.

It's amazing how the Wii U can have such horrible hardware sales and yet software can sell so well on it.
