Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo knows you want Metroid

I'm guessing it got moved or is being developed as an NX launch game? Probably why they can't announce it.

If they know that the fans want a real Metroid game then they better start working now. If they want the NX to actually survive then they are going to need games that matter during the launch window. Metroid wont make that window but it will keep the momentum if the start now.

They knew people want a Metroid, but they are not giving us one. What is all the hold up?

June 2014: "So it has been a while since we released the last one and we're having discussions internally about what we can do next. So at this point we have two different types of Metroid games. We have the Prime style of Metroid game and we have the more traditional style of Metroid game. We feel that we do need to take care of both of these styles of play. And the hope is that at some point in the near future we'll be able to share something about them." - Shinya Takahashi, aka the boss of both Yoshio Sakamoto (creator of Metroid) and Kensuke Tanabe (producer of Metroid Prime)

June 2015: "I said this at the beginning, but I’m not involved in the 2D Metroid games that [Yoshio] Sakamoto works on." - Kensuke Tanabe, when asked whether Federation Force is the only Metroid game he's working on.

June 2015: "We also know that the best way to launch a (traditional Metroid game) is to surprise and delight them, to give them a launch date, in an environment like this let them play it vs. what other companies do which is to announce a project that you may not see for five, six years." - Reggie

The implications here are so obvious it pains me to see people whining about how Nintendo won't give us what we want. Sakamoto is currently working on a new 2D Metroid game. It will be revealed shortly before launch, because Metroid is more like Star Fox and less like Zelda.

Quoting so other people see since everyone seems to be ignoring this.

Maybe this could mean a new Metroid game is in the works? : ) It could be right now, and we won`t know until they reveal it, with a released date not long after. It could def happen!

I know it's wishful thinking, but we still don't know what Retro Studios has been working on since Donkey Kong. There's always a chance that it's a 2D Metroid that will be out in 2016. Retro has been doing a great job with the 2D sidescrollers and I can't think of anybody more qualified then them to tackle a 2D Metroid on the Wii U.

Nintendo, if you're reading this, a 2D Metroid is almost as good as a proper 3D Metroid (especially if it comes from Retro) which makes it about 500 times better than the Metroid's we saw at E3.

That's just the Prime director. All that means is that the next Metroid won't be a Prime game (which they said they were done with the series anyways).

That would be news to the Prime director- He says he wants to make another Prime game but he has not been able to get the assets/resources to do so, that the next would be on NX (when/if there is one)

He also said "Three ends the trilogy" in the same article.

As well as "We've done a story based on the Hunters, and this time around we're doing a story on the Galactic Federation," he added, referring to his new 3DS game. "I would like to cross the two over in the future. And of course see a little more of Samus."

"So it was Sylux, another hunter from Metroid Prime Hunters at the end of Metroid Prime 3. Personally I'd like to create a story centring around Sylux and Samus," he said"

Ugh, if this is the "New direction" he wants to take Prime with a numbered series, give me Other M 2.

But he has said several times that Metroid Prime is a trilogy, and it has been told. So even if we get a "Prime game" I fear for what we actually get.

It might drop your enthusiasm to learn the Metroid Prime Federation Force is a "Prime style game". So what we are really hoping for is really down to the 2D style game. (Hopefully 2.5D like Other M.)

In other words, we are working on it, but don't expect it soon.

i hope we get a 2D one... but mainline and no spinoff.
