#7 It's saving us from any real depth and meaning
#8 it's saving us from expanding our horizons and treating gaming as anything more than a juvenile past time.

Although it makes some good points, it presupposes that current FPS games are "boring" when millions of people think otherwise.IMO although both Splatoon and FPS giants like battlefield and CoD have their own market space and are not even direct competitors. FPS fans are not the ones buying splatoon, nintendo fans are. Let us not overblow splatoon's reasonable success. It has sold relatively well, but it has not "saved" and "revolutionized" anything. It should also be remembered that Splatoon has been released after a massive game drought the Wii U.

And voice chat is a must in MP games, it has become an industry staple. There is always a mute option.

Reading through the OP again, this is just a bad thread...It's really just one lady who doesn't like most shooters who likes Splatoon treating his opinion like the end all be all.

No stars.

Edit: Changed guy to lady, my apologies.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

There is an interesting design choice I haven't seen get much attention. It gets the occasional negative remark, but it's a lot less controversial than the lack of voice chat.

You can't leave a lobby once you've joined it. You can't quit a match once it has started. I've seen a few people complain about these, but I think the benefits far outweigh whatever 'problems' these cause. Ever struggled to start a match in an online game because people kept leaving the lobby? Ever had someone join and leave immediately upon seeing that their teammates were low-leveled? How about leaving a match midway through because they thought it was hopeless?

I'm glad people can't pull that crap in Splatoon. It does make the game less frustrating.

Good points. It`s a really good thing people can`t leave during the match. I feel Splatoon is a game that needs the teams to be full at all times because having one less member is very crippling to that team. I`ve had times where my team lost because we were missing one member, and we would lose badly. Allowing players to leave may have done a lot of damage to this game.

Good write Kylee. I think you do make some good points about Splatoon. It certainly does make some new and interesting changes to the shooter genre that I feel are starting to get stale, and dark and gritty as well. Not everyone will like Splatoon, but it does a good job in giving a new twist to the genre.

#6. It's Saving Us From Assholes

Just because Nintendo isn't competent at making voice chat in its games doesn't mean that voice chat is bad. The simple truth is that the vast majority of people who use voice chat just want to play their games. It's also well-known that gamers, the ones on PS consoles at least, don't care to use voice chat or a mic.

The truth is that the option should be there.

#5. It's Saving Us From Unnecessary Realism

Look at all these realism from games that have shooting mechanics:

Add games like Destiny, Uncharted, Killzone: Shadow Fall and you can scream realism all you want but the truth is that shooters come in all shapes and flavours.

#4. It's Saving Us From Boredom

Thanks for your opinion. Everyone has one.

#3. It's Saving Us From Solo Twitch Campers

Oh, so Splatoon lacks a sniper class? Too bad.

#2. It's Saving Us From Pointless Death

A good shooter has plenty of modes where killing is not the point. Why not have objective-based modes and kills-based modes?

#1. It's Saving The Industry Itself

What the hell was your point here? Really scraping to fill space.

Why do people link Splatoon to FPS? Do you guys even try FPS games?
You cannot even compare Gears and Halo in terms of gameplay.

EDIT: Wait a second. This was just a copy-and-paste from an article published on Cracked. I should have guessed given the six-entry countdown format. The OP needs to cite their source in the article.

I notice this a lot on this forum.  People will copy an article in full and relegate the source to a tiny link at the bottom or no link at all as is the case here.

This is probably my favorite thread on VG chartz now :3 at least for a while. I was laughing my ass off the whole time while having immense respect for you. The fact you've been playing games and shooters in general for a long time as have I, really puts things in perspective. I regret to say that I am also a huge Nintendo fan who has been a little disappointed in them lately, I have yet to play Splatoon. I like my Wii U but there was something about the game that turned me off. I may need to play this for sure someday. I've heard nothing short of amazing things about this game! :)

Edit: Oh.... nvm.... Shadow1980 proved that this is a copy paste with all the pretty pictures as well. I thought you wrote this.... :/ I can't call it my favorite now XD

Ahh realism, seems like the whipping boy of video games for 2015. Unfortunately for those who are trying to beat the cartoon drum realism sells and will continue to sell.

Who needs to be saved from awful shooters? I believe awful shooters completely fail all by themselves and they don't need Nintendo to swoop in and save everyone. And good shooters full of realism will live on and succeed.

It's a lucky thing Splatoon is on Wii U, because if it was on Wii in 2008 in about 6 months there would have been 6 Splatoon clones from bandwagon jumping 3rd parties that are all PoS shovelware.
