Forums - Gaming Discussion - Reggie of Nintendo comments on 360

Reggie... or anybody for that matters, should shut up about other company's business, especially if you don't have anything constructive to say.

Saying Microsoft's xbox isn't an 'smart idea' is just asking to get yourself disrespected by gamers.

From a business perspective, the 360 is the biggest money leech in existance. It, with the Zune, made a 500,000,000 "profit" in what is probably its most profitable year ever, and that includes from here on out, and that doesn't include the 1,000,000,000 dollar cost of the RRoD.

I know your smart enough not to fall for MS spin though, so lets assume you know the 360 was a bad business decision, and instead your problem is with Reggie saying it.

Well, it's the same thing as when the idiot asked Jaffe why Miyamoto said cars shouldn't shoot guns and Jaffe fired back at Miyamoto, to his eternal disgrace. A retarded question from a retarded press agent, designed to get a controversial response, and everyone gets all pissy when they hear it, like it was Reggies fault.

If you ask me, I think he fielded the question rather respectfully.

What say you?

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

What kind of power does Reggie really have at Nintendo? It seems to me that all the shots are called in Japan and he's just the poster boy in America. What exactly did he do that contributed to the success of the Wii? If he wasn't there would it have sold a lot less or something?

His job entails taking names at major game conventions.

Is that before or after said names asses are kicked?

Reggie's the man. I'm inclined to agree with everything he says, because if I don't he steals my cereal in the morning.

Whats wrong with this? If you asked Microsoft shareholders, they'd probably agree.. and its not as if Reggie is talking shit about the Xbox. He was asked a question and answered it.

It took a lot a while, but I found some cold hard evidence to show just how big of a factor Reggie played in the the Nintendaissance (word I just made up).

Hell yes.  I hope the Nintendaissance never ends.

I don't agree. As a commercial venture it has not been a huge success (though this generation has been far more successful than the last) however as a challenge to Sony - it has had far more luck and may well have more than payed for itself in that it is partially responsible for the comparative failure of the PS3.

But how does the comparitive failure of the ps3 help them?  In the Xbox vs PlayStation war, yes it's a good thing, but the point was what good came of them entering the console wars at all?  They've lost billions, and the ps3 going strong would not have hurt them in the slightest if they didn't have a console competing with it.

I mean, losing billions on a project to hurt a competitor that you never would've had had you not started the project is hardly the project paying for itself.

Reggie was the Vice President of Marketing of Nintendo of America.  He was the man behind marketing the Wii in America.  He was so successful that he got promoted to president of NOA.  He's a marketing genius.  He saved VH1 and made shitloads of money for Pizza Hut and Guinness.  Nintendo got the king of marketing and made him a president.  Smart move.  But yeah, now that he IS president, I have no idea exactly what his job entails.  I know he at least gets to boss around the woman who got his old job, so he still has his hand in marketing a little, but I don't know what he does like... in the office.

Other than pwn nubz, that is.

Seeing people's reactions to this relatively benign comment is hysterical. I haven't had this good a laugh in a while.

Reggie tastefully expresses worry with the Xbox brand's financial success (which is apt given its only just become "profitable"). You would think that he had said, "HD gaming is for people with low IQs" given the response here.

You have had numerous people at both Sony and Microsoft directly and publically belittle the Wii, calling it a gimmick and a fad, saying Wii gamers can graduate to the 360, yet you're making a fuss over this? A passing comment that is about as reserved as they come and act like he said, "HD gaming is for people with low IQs" given the response here.

"WHAT DOES REGGIE KNOW? I BET HE'S NOT EVEN THAT IMPORTANT IN NINTENDO!"

What should anyone's opinion in Nintendo matter to you people anyway. Calm down. What? Were you expecting him to say, "Well I own a 360 but not the Wii, HD gaming is the way to go!"?
