Forums - Sales Discussion - Final Fantasy and Playstation/Xbox

I think FF7R will end up first on PS4.... then a year down the line on PC.
Xbox one option is a "maybe" at best.

If your a big FF fan, and your looking to upg consols.... its one of those things you would need to take into consideration.

This game is going to boost PS4 sales anyway, so unless MS had tried to get it exclusively, Sony wouldn't have paid any money for it, specially knowing JRPGs sell way better on PS consoles than XBox ones.

If this title was a les known game, SE would have tried to make it exclusive. But FFVII is one of the most popular games of all time, it will sell more than a million on every platform it's on based on name alone.

Can you imagine how much that would cost MS?

If Final fantasy sells like 5 - 10 times as much on about equal market share, then when the PS4 is at near double the Xbox one user base.... that would mean for every sell of a game on Xbox they are loseing 10 - 20 times as many copies sold on a PS4.

The price to buy such a "exclusive" would be enormous.

It would start some ugly sh*t storms of bad PR as well.... there would be alot of angry fans.

I know, right? If people raged about the Tomb Raider timed exclusivity, could you imagine what would happen if FFVII became a full XBone exclusive? Aaah, those are the flamewars one can only dream of. XD

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Or what if Sony helped to fund it and if it weren't for them it wouldn't have been made in the first place? If SE were making it anyway and Sony paid to get it on PS4 first then they wasted their money, it won't make a difference. If however it wouldn't exist at all without Sony's help then it was a good decision to get in there. We don't know about VII Remake, we do however know that XV would be made regardless of whether Sony get a deal or not though.

I think Sony realizes now more than ever that even though a game is associated with them, exclusitity is important. GTA was playstation at one point, now its forever a multiconsole game because the GTA fanbase is everywhere. Final Fantasy is much safer because a huge chunk of its fanbase is in Japan where the XBox is dead.

Lets reverse your logic.

Halo. Halo is XBox. Xbox is Halo. What if Halo came out on the PS4? Its fanbase is all on the Xbox so it would be no big deal right. MS would just let it go because they know it will still sell better for them.

And before you laugh at how obserd my analogy was. Final Fantasy 7 was Sony's Halo back in 1997. It was the game that legitimized thier console. It also ensured early in the gen that the PS2 would win (then GTA came along and locked it totally down for them). Had FF X gone to gamecube, even as a multiplat that could have changed the course for that entire gen.

psn- tokila

add me, the more the merrier.

It's square's financial dempartment's decision if X1 ports are still viable. For a lot of smaller games of Japanese developers it already isn't. I think main Final Fantasy games are the only Japanese RPGs left that are viable for X1. Only the strongest brand power can reach over the aisle.

I'm interested in SE's decision after they've seen the sales of FFXV and FFVIIR.

Who said Sony wasted any money on the FF VII Remake deal? FF VII has always been only on PlayStation for consoles, and it was published by Sony in the west.

Still any Final Fantasy fan knows that to play those games the PlayStation is the way to go. It's (and will be) getting all FF titles, also playing better. Sure SE doesn't want to enrage its Japanese fans.

I am going to assume Sony made some sort of financial deal to lock it in. Probably just paying for marketing. But it could have been more.

I read that Kagarii at Neogaf said Sony are helping fund FF7. I haven't seen the post myself, so I'm not sure if true. (Would appreciate if someone could link me to it.) But from what I understand she's tends to be on point with SE info as she supposedly works for them or something.

I saw it by my self, that she wrote that. FF7 Remake will never come to the Xbone. It just wont happen, every year from now on, the sales gap will be bigger and bigger, Sonys financial health will get stronger, and in the end, they just wont let it happen, that this legendary game comes to the xbone, and thats good this way!

Jinxrake aka best Comedian ever

Well so in the end it's exclusive even if releasing MP.
