Forums - Gaming Discussion - Shenmue 3 would probably have Persona-ish world map if it doesn't get to $10M

I was soured to the whole campaign with the bait and switch that seemed to be happening early on. If there were any chance of seeing it on the Wii U, I'd back to make sure that'll happen.

With it being Sony exclusive, they're going to have to cover a lot of the cost themselves. Ports bring in a lot of extra funding. Just look at how well "Bloodstained" did during its entire run.

Dude if they put it in WiiU, I'd refuse  to participate.  I wouldn't back a game that gets its balls cut off by a weak, unpopular platform.  This is supposed to be an open world rpg... not bloodstained.

The WiiU version would take way too much time to build for barely any sales. It would also place technical limitations on the game.

Honestly, Shenmue 3 doesn't have the KS longevity and might even flop so investing on open world is just suicidal at worst. I'm actually okay with it having like Persona 5 overworld with locations plastered around the city and anyone expecting for more is delusional unless Sony really funds or KS goes overdrive again.

That crazy Polygon article/Gaf negativity hurt its KS potential because xbox one version is not planned for it, fanboys ruin a good thing but anyway, I'm okay with this as long as its made.

Dude stop. KS longevity? LMAO! What is that. Is this your first kickstarter? All KS follow a bath curve.

Lol are you kidding me? Longevity means your KS project would hit yout stretch goals. This KS was projected at $50M but now it'll be lucky to get $8M.

This is not some Yooka situation where its okay if it doesn't hit $5M cause their estimated stretch goals in order to fully realize their game were conservative. Shenmue on the other hand needs more money to have that and I believe $10M is not big enough to cover all bases

My company costs about <$3M a year for  our development budget.  We have a CTO, director and manager, 2 business analysts,  1 ux guy, 2 project managers, 4 technical qas, and about 12 developers.

They plan on 2 years only... so salary  costs are down. They could hire a team my size on around a $6M budget. However,  they will recruit external funding in addition to the KS.

A Persona-ish world map would make a lot of sense in Shenmue 1 and 2. Considering three takes place in Guilin...not so much.

Suzuki already said that they need $10,000,000 to make it truly open world.

Lol, are you serious? The Kicktraq projections of ANY kickstarter project are way overinflated in the first days because they don't factor in that the first and last days of any kickstarter get the most pledges and the projection ignores the vale of tears between.

I'm serious. It's not like I or everyone care about if it hits 50M, they won't hit that but it's clear that in order to fully realize the game, Shenmue needs more than ten million dollars from the kickstarters and if the projections goes down, so the kickstarter money. The trends are against Shenmue 3 being true open world and with the projections going down everyday, it might come to a point where it won't make $10M.

I remember wanting to just finish the story for a long long time and I didn't care what that meant at the time but now that its been announced in this way and the more I think about it. I don't want a game thats just finishing the story because I loved and played Shenmue for a lot more things than just the story and I honestly don't want to be disappointed by a game that couldn't fully be realised because it wasn't properly funded.

Sony should be praised for what they did at E3 regarding the game even if it may have been for slightly selfish reasons related to PR but all this talk about them doing nothing but covering the marketing costs is the wrong way to go about it. I don't think many people other that those those dedicated to the franchise and those funding it through kickstarter are going to be buying it. I honestly don't care if it sells like crap again, I just want to play Shenmue 3 again so the marketing costs to me are worthless unless they are spent solely on promoting the kickstarter campaign and I'm sure a lot of Shenmue fans feel this way. There is minimal risk involved at present if we are paying for the majority of the development through kickstarter so why is there a need to only spend money on marketing to get even more sales? I just don't get that.
