Yet I was basically called a liar for saying Mass Effect was sub-par just the other day.

Just imagine what the games that tax the 360 will do.

These games do tax the 360 because they're poorly optimized.

Hence, well optimized games should work fine on the emulator as well.

Never thought about that. But its true for every generation. Games become easier to run/make for devs as the gen goes on. Its silly for all the people to say "(Game) will be too much for the emulator to run" as if its a hardware emulator when its not.

Whats wrong is the 10 FPS framerate.  I was expecting better and like everyone has pointed out, this doesn't bode well for something like GTA.  I mean,  PSNow runs at 30 FPS. I hope it improves but for now I think plaing on Xbox 360 is the best approach.

Actually it bodes very ery well for them. ME was a really poorly built game, games that utilise the DX API's in more standard manner with efficient engines and a consistent experience on the 360 "should" be far easier to get a similiar or better experience on the One. For such an early beta it is astonishing that it works as well as it does considering the VM will be riddled with both bugs and a lot of debug code which will affect performance, it is looking very interesting, though useless to me till I see the couple of games I really want listed.

First big group of games will be MS Studios games. Then they'll get to the most voted games on the feedback site.

Would this put the nail in the coffin for the excitement people had of backwards compatibility? Would this also mean that software emulation isn't the method that should be utilized for backwards compatibility?

Either way, looking at such a downgrade doesn't help the limited list Microsoft has revealed. Hopefully these issues are somehow solved if software emulation is a workaround. If not, would Microsoft forgo into more cross platform play with PC?

MS hasn't revealed a list of the fall launch games yet. These are beta games for preview members.

Vsync is the reason for this. All MS has to do is add a choice to turn it off.

Clearly rushed for E3 due to the lack of any real megaton

So rushed it isn't available to most of the general public yet. Preview members only...

Not unlike announcing any new game or feature before release... Surely.

This announcement has ruffled so many feathers.

Especially for the people who "say" they don't want/need BC.

It's impressive enough that MS was able to create a running 360 emulator on the X1 at all. The rest is just optimization. Just look at how other emulators evolved over time, like Dolphin or even SNES9x. They weren't worth shit at the beginning but now they run pretty much every game without asking for too much power. Yeah, okay, those run on PC and users got more and more power over time. But it was the same on PSP. When it got first hacked, even GB emulators had many many problems. But today, you can play every GBA title in full speed and even the entire PSX library and an impressive number of N64 games. I'm sure Microsoft will find ways to get almost every game running. So I would relax for now.

Official member of VGC's Nintendo family, approved by the one and only RolStoppable. I feel honored.

Software is emulation is a fine method, MS already said the emulator is still in development. Many games get patched to improve performance, I would expect the same for this emulator.

If they can enable screen tear than X1 BC will perform at par with the actual 360 hardware. While still seeing improvments in loading and texture pop in.

For some reason I have access to a few X1 BC titles already. I tested Geometry Wars and Toy Soldiers, they work great. No performance issues I can determine with my eyes.
