This is what worries me a little bit.

"So what I think is unique about Nintendo is we’re constantly trying to do unique and different things. Sometimes they work, and sometimes they’re not as big of a hit as we would like to hope. After Wii U, we’re hoping that next time it will be a very big hit."

So they are trying "something new" again? Oh my.. just do what Sony do: nothing. PS4 is "just" a stronger PS1 and that's OK because that's what gamers want.

Doing the same stuff that Sony does won't put them back on top. Just because you imitate someone doesn't mean you will get the same results as them.

"Something new" is good and I hope they embrace it.

Only if what you have is bad.(1)

Once you find something good, that works and consumers want... you stick to it, improve on it, and make it become associated with you.

Nintendo found the "good" with their wii nunchucks... wii sold like hotcakes.

Instead of makeing a new and better wii (wii 2), they just changed everything for no reason.(2)

(1) Not really. If they go the way you are pointing they will be fated to fight with MS for the second place everytime, at about 40M to each of them. The 100/83/80 only happened because of the Wii, and because SONY messed up PS3 launch.

(2) I disagree. Wii 2 would sell like crap. It was a genial move for the time, but it wouldn`t last. After some years of incredible sales, the Wii went down.

No, Miyamoto, no. The Wii U failed because of the mismanagement of the idea from the beginning. Not just because of the Gamepad.

I will never understand why nintendo decided to kill the wiimotes it still baffles me today. They had something succesful that people liked and they threw it under the bus.

Honestly me either.

Its like you "hit gold" but instead of mineing it... you sell the land its found on, for a low price, and go digging other places for gold.

Its so risky.. and for no reason.

Nintendo dont need to be "unique" or reinvent themselfs every gen.

They need to find their own "style" and stick with it...

The Wii motes (nunchucks) where very differnt from what the others had and allowed differnt types of gameplay the other couldnt give.

It should have been nintendos thing.

And you know what? now there are others makeing controllers like that.

Look at Oculus rift controllers.... hell even sony are trying to make something like the Wii motes, for their VR systems.

Imagine where nintendo would be if they had stuck with their nunchucks? they would be much better setup and ready for VR.

because no zelda in 4 years.

Good. Learn from this and make your next console better

Without the gamepad, they wouldn't stand a chance at all. Traditional consoles only sell because of marketing and publishing deals, it would be like expecting a big Hollywood studio to make less money than a small third world one during six or more years.

if they released wii u before the people's burned out from tablet market... it would've been a huge success.... timing plays a big role for these "gimmicky"/innovation kind of console....

Why would nintendo useing Nunchucks be competiting with Xbox ?  Xbox has kinect... and you know what? kintect sucks ass.... its not useable for good gameplay. Wii Motes are usable for good gameplay.

Also look at trends.... look at what Occulus rift is doing to make a controller for VR, look at what Sony is doing as well.

Everyone is copying the concept Nintendo had... because it works, and it works really well.

Wii 2 would not have sold like crap... im like 95% sure it would have sold better than the Wii U.

Nintendo mis-managed their hardware developement and concept development for their console, and it bit them in the ass.

I'm sure Nintendo learned a very important lesson with Wii U. I'm actually glad it sorta "failed". The games that are on it are top notch though. Super Mario Maker made me smile the entire time at the Championships. It's such an amazing homage to Mario. Hopefully, NX will come back with a vengeance. When Nintendo throws that Nintendo Hadouken, there's no dodging that one.

"So what I think is unique about Nintendo is we’re constantly trying to do unique and different things. Sometimes they work, and sometimes they’re not as big of a hit as we would like to hope. After Wii U, we’re hoping that next time it will be a very big hit."

So they are aiming for another unique experience.
