Forums - Gaming Discussion - Microsoft is Expecting Huge Xbox One Sales from backwards compatability

Honestly I am expecting a nice bump in the two weeks following E3 for those that were impressed, and that's pretty much it. Maybe they'll win October and September NPD

Some people still believe X1 will well better like last year on NPD?

Its very unlikely, with thé huge E3 buzz and all these deals the PS4 got, at best for microsoft, it will be a tie, at worst PS4 will win by a good margin, which seems likely, i make thé bet, Ps4 will sell more than X1 during Sept+oct+nov+dec

I'm not sure about that. What I think will happen is the gap will be reduced but not by as much as it was reduced last year and the gap this year leading into Christmas will likely be slightly bigger than it was last year. In 2016 Christmas won't make a difference at all for MS. In fact I think Sony will win Christmas 2016 simply because of the excuslives they have to play with. They have no dates so far for many of their titles coming in 2016 and they have lots of titles to play with.

I agee.  Also, the bar gets raised every year.  Last year the Xbox One sold 2.2 milion and outsold the PS4 by 600k in November and December.

If PS4 sales stay the same, Microsoft will have to sell 3 million in November and December.  Sony WILL win June and September by healthy margins.  Even if Microsoft can work it back in October, the gap will be at least 600-700k by November.

Sony will bury us in Call of Duty and Star War advertisments and will probably come out very well in Novmebr.  Nothing in December will make a difference.

We are talking about BC because there is nothing after Halo to push hardware.   This is it.  Its do or die time for Microsoft.

I like your point of view but I am not sure Microsoft will win Novmebr at al.

it's almost the end of june,.. where is that amazing 2015 lineup xbox keeps talking about?

Right now as well as the summer is like pre-season. They tend to focus on when things really matter. Holiday season.

Wait a few more months. It's coming.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Just when I though clickbaitology had peaked, major advancement in clickbait technology like this is unveiled and I am again left in awe. This is what you would find next to the word "lie" in the dictionary. Article writer, website and OP should be ashamed.

Thanks jlmurph!

COD: November 6

BF3: November 17

Be on the lookout for that PS4+BF3 Black Friday bundle which is all but imminent.

Nice spin. Title is dumb and misleading. Doesn't surprise me who posted this tho after seeing lately how blatantly biased towards MS the OP is.

BC was a sweet move by MS, tho I do feel it's a bit late in the gen for it to make a huge difference.

As for ps4 exclusives in 2015, it is unfortunate for MS, but to the "lay" gamer who doesn't follow news like we all do, the ps4 has a better holiday 2015 lineup than any other console. They have MGS5, which is bigger and with a broader appeal than any prior MGS (open world with massive amt of things to do), then the new Assassins Creed, then the new CoD, and then possibly most massive of all, they have Star Wars Battlefront, which will release smack dab in the middle of the hype peak for the new Star Wars movie. And this isnt even mentioning the fact that they have the exclusive deal with one of the other massive titles of 2015 in Batman AK. And then there's less huge titles like Uncharted collection which will sell several million copies, No Mans Sky (tho I think it may get delayed), Firewatch which looks awesome, Everbodys gone to the rapture which also looks awesome, Soma, and several other great looking smaller titles (see the article "the 44 ps4 exclusive games that are still to come in 2015")

Compare this to MS who is forced to focus primarily on their exclusives, and so it looks like their holiday consists of Forza 6, then Halo, then TR. Halo is gonna be huge I'm sure. TR1 was great and I'm sure RoTR will be also, but this series is nothing compared to AC, CoD, or Battlefront. Or MGS for that matter. Also, RoTR is gonna be overshadowed by releasing on the same day as Fallout 4! (And in the midst of many other much larger titles). Forza is Forza. They sell decent but none make a huge splash sales wise.

I actually feel bad for MS. They have done a great job lining up a blockbuster holiday with their trifecta. They actually deserve to sell better than Sony this holiday, but Sony without any AAA exclusives was hungry for the big third party partnerships. Halo is gonna be huge for sure, but it's Halo vs MGS5, AC, CoD, and Battlefront, which represent likely the future top 4 highest selling games of 2015.
