Forums - Gaming Discussion - Re-opening a discussion: "The Wii U is a better secondary console than the X1/PS4"

I made a thread about the same topic about 10 months ago, asking why the generally held believe was that the Wii U would make a better secondary system for anyone that already owns a PS4/X1 than a X1/PS4 would. Back then people were pretty adamant about the Wii U being better because of different exclusives and getting more exclusives. A lot of things have changed since then, so I thought I'd open the question for discussion again. Keep in mind that I'm again talking about the whole generation and not just right now, so future games should be put into consideration as well.

For anyone that wants to catch up, here's the old thread: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=188942&page=1

My personal opinion: When I made the first thread, I was of the opinion that the X1/PS4 could make equally good secondary system as the Wii U can, saying that all consoles would get a more or less equal amount of worthwile exclusives at the end of the gen, which would bring the whole thing ultimately down to taste. Since then I have changed my opinion and think that the X1/PS4 are both better secondary system then the Wii U and that they are both going to have more worthwile exclusives than the Wii U in their life.

Keep in mind that in this case I mean "not on the other system" when talking about exclusives, so it doesn't matter if a game is on PC or handheld, because the scenario is that you have one home console and are looking for a secondary system to complement it, not that you have one home console and a gaming PC and are looking for another console.

PC + Wii U = Best thing that ever happened to mankind !

Nah, I still think the Wii u is the premiere secondary. I have all three and have most of their exclusives, The Xbox one and PS4 are interchangeable offering almost identical experiences, so I could drop one and not miss out much. On the other hand dropping the Wii U means I'll be missing out some truly unique experiences. Just my opinion though.

No, WiiU is still a better secondary console for any PS/XB user. Unfortunatelly for Nintendo, it is a horrible primary console, and not that many people venture to own two consoles.
That's why it is where it is.

at this point, wii u is a different experience while xb1/ps4 are like having the same game twice, so right now, the wii u, but in the future it's probably better to go xb1/ps4 because the wii u is apparently a dead investment moving forward.

Wii U has more and better exclusives, atleast in my opinion.
That might change in the future, but I still think that Wii U is much better as a secondary console than PS4 / Xbox One.
I wouldn't want to miss out on any of the 3 consoles though.

Yes!

Also thanks to ps4/x1 are so weak, my 5 old year old pc after small upgrade is able to play all recent multi on high in 1080p (or 900p at least). So thank you for i don't need buying more hardware!

Still like the wiiu better

Now, even X1 will get more exclusives than WiiU, so it will be a better secondary console

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m
