Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4 Pricecut

So now E3 has come and gone.... When do you think Sony will have a pricedrop and by how much.

Gamescon is 5 August, Tokyo Game Show starts 17 September.

I think Gamescon is too soon, but MGS5 could be a good push for them so they may want to drop the price before it launches.

I think TGS timing is perfect. The drop would be fresh and just in time for the Holiday ramp up.

I think without an exclusive AAA game Sony will combine a price drop with major marketing deals to great affect. I am already picturing a commercial showing Star Wars, COD, AC, MGS 5 and ending with new low price --- .

I have no clue what they will drop it to. 299 would send sales through the rough, but I dont think they feel they need to go that far. I think they go with 349 with some sort of game selection (from COD, Star Wars, and AC).

Star Wars will without a doubt have its own bundle. Hell they may all have bundles. Hell maybe they dont drop the price but roll with an amazing bundle selection.

I don't see a price cut this year.... ps4 is selling well and making sony a profit at 399.. now that huge AAA ip are coming such as fallout, star wars bf, hitman, batman, and others... it makes less sense to drop the price since those games are going to push sales upwards

Maybe at Gamescom, Microsoft will make a great conference and then Sony will just announce " PS4 now officially available for $350 " to counter it, and then make their own PGW conference and then TGS where they will announce a price even lower in Japan

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

Gamescom or PGW seems likely to me now. TGS is a bit too late I think. They will likely want to get it before Black Friday. I honestly thought we were going to see one at E3 but I guess Sony felt comfortable enough not to. The batman bundle should do well. Has a Sony console ever gone through its first two years without a price drop?

It's selling like hotcakes, why would they lower the price?
Next year sounds more plausible to me.

I don't expect a price drop any time this year. At the most, we may see a $349.99 500GB and a $399.99 1TB model. In that case October would be the latest. However, I don't think Sony and MS have any plans to play a price war game this gen. I think instead they are going to continue to add value to the consoles, and make minor improvements in future hardware revisions.

As far as I have gathered, Project Morpheus requires 1 HDMI port and 1 USB 3.0 port. I think an extra HDMI in the front of the next PS4, and at least 1 more USB 3.0 port would do wonder to help sell morpheus. Along with that, I think both consoles could see an upgrade in RAM. 12GB in future models would help multitasking, and open up a lot of other oppertunities. Most notably, they could give devs extra RAM for games, and limit the multi-tasking on early models of the units to what we have currently (thus, not fracturing the userbase). Other things like the newest Wifi, Blue Tooth, and NFC, will be very important to keeping the consoles relevent over the next 5 years.

With the additions of the ever expanding Vue and Sling TV services, Windows 10 software on XBO, and many other apps, that assure these boxes stay competitive with Apple TV and Android set top boxes. All of the sudden $399.99 is a pretty good price for something that can replace you Blu-ray, your Wii/PS3/360, your Cable box, and even your PC for many.

No need for them to cut the price with the way it's selling. MS had to cut the price, to get more people to buy the system.

They are doing their next big conference at Paris Games Week, it'll be announced then, which is in October so for November and therefore Christmas. It will be an official pricecut, lowered to £300, 300EUR. You can get it for less than this now though.

Hmm, pie.

PGW (27th of october) is more than a month after TGS (17th of september)

and I still think PGW is the most likely conference to announce a price drop - they don't have a media briefing at gamescom, so it's pretty certain they won't cut the price there (ofc Sony will be a big exhibitor at that convention anyway), unless something drastic happens

I have a feeling Sony is going to do what Microsoft did last year.
