Forums - Gaming Discussion - Will Rise of the Tomb Raider be a commercial flop this fall?

Please note the key word is COMMERCIAL. I have no doubt it will be a quality product, CD is just a great dev, and they have a strong foundation from TR (2013) to build on.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III -Nov 6
Rise of the Tomb Raider - Nov 10
Fallout 4 - Nov 10
Star Wars: Battlefront -Nov 17

That is the release schedule near ROTTR. Add Halo 5 / AC a few weeks earlier and I have a hard time seeing this getting footing. Add in the fact that Fallout and AC target a similiar demographic, and hype will be through the roof on Star Wars. I can see why Sony delayed UC4. Holiday 15 is just loaded.

I feel its genre does not resognate with the XBOX userbase and it is surrounded by Killer Aps that do.

i dont think it will be a ''flop'' but it wont set the charts on fire though. I'm just looking forward to actually playing it :O

Not in the long term. I see it selling at least 1m by year's end on XBO, if not more. Then there's the inevitable PC port, which will sell a lot. And if/when it hits PS4, it will still great on that too.

The move to make it a timed exclusive on XBO won't hurt its LT sales, I feel. MS is banking on it being a system seller for the holiday period after Halo 5, and SE wouldn't have done the deal if they didn't think they would sell enough copies of the game.

Given that M$ paid good money and the game is multiplat, I think the game will still make profit in the end.

Will have great legs and will be released in ps4 and PC also later.

Will be a sucess after 3years from launch.

Not to mention the money they already pocketed because of the timed exclusive deal.

It might just be if SE is as loose with their game budget as they were with the first one.

I don't know but I'll be definitely playing Day One. Gameplay looked to sweet. Me and at least 4 other ppl will

I am not worried about CD, I am pretty sure whatever deal MS made with them it made the whole enterprise low risk.

I know this is selfish(and probably a tad childish), but I hope it sells bad at 1st because I think it will go to PC/PS4 faster if it does and I want to play it. Not going to buy an XB1 just for it....

Probably not and its not even a full exclusive so it should be fine
