Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The NX is confirmed to be a home console. (not that it needed any confirmation)

Oh well... that pretty much confirms the flop then. The fusion concept was their only chance.

Not necessarily true. Their next handheld could just be a mobile platform in general and the NX console can play those same games.

NX is the next Nintendo home console and will release in holidays 2016!

It depends on how far they're willing to go to use it. 8GB of HBM for unified memory should be plenty to last the generation. If they are going with a APU like AMD was saying then 8GB of HBM should be good. Maybe Nintendo keeps a little bit of DDR3 set aside to run the OS. 2GB of DDR3 should be enough to keep it functional.

8GB of HBM is not feasible today. AMD latest GPU (Fury X) will have "only" 4GB - 4GB of HBM would be amazing on an console. Also, when you're using HBM you need a strong GPU to pump it. In the end the machine would be pretty expensive. =/

I just wish Nintendo would start talking about it! I don't want to wait until next year.. :/

Going to buy one next year a reckon. But seriously believe the NX will be a AMD Zen APU, or is it coincidence that Nintendo want to talk next year, the year Zen is released.

But next year we'll have HBM2 already. Expect to see the Rx 400 and Pascall shipping with upwards of 12-16GB HBM by their 2016-2017 cycle. Not to mention GPUs have always been memory bandwidth starved, and remember how the X360 benefited of that 256 GB/s edRAM link. Of course the difference isn't going to be night and day from GDDR5 to HBM, but hey, it has lower power consumption and takes less space, so I think Nintendo might be interested by it.

Weggie can come and say NX is their next homeconsole and people will still spin it to live in denial.

Yeah, I think you may be right.

I have clearly underestimated the astonishing lengths some fans will go through to bury their heads in the sand and remain in denial. For that, I am sorry.

Reggie isn't talking about the NX when talking about their next home console they've publicly revealed. Clearly.
The producer of Prime wasn't clearly referring to the NX as a console when talking about a console game appearing on it. Clearly.

I'm the one who's warping information to suit his own agenda. Clearly.

I don't get it, either. Here's what Reggie said to Wall Street Journal: "We’ve also said publicly that we are already hard at work on our next home console and that’s another element we’ll be talking about much later." (http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2015/06/18/nintendos-reggie-fils-aime-talks-amiibo-and-the-skylanders-deal/ ).

It wouldn't make any sense to hint at a new home console two and a half years before release. They first talked about the Wii at e3 2005 and that console released 1.5 years later. They talked about the 3DS at e3 2010 for the first time and it launched in early 2011. No signs of the Zelda game we saw in motion last year and that statement from Metroid's producer are a clear indication. Also, if Nintendo wants to make cross-development between its home console and handheld easy they'll have to release the home console first to keep the power gap as small as possible.

They need the next console out in 2016, otherwise there won't be any console hardware business left for them. Releasing high budget games on a console that sells 25k units per week (in 2016) would be financially unwise. That's why there's so many budget games for the Wii U already: Software sales estimates are lower because of the small install based. That's why Starfox looks like a Wii game in HD and not as good as people hoped for.
