Maybe a new Crash can happen now

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

Seriously? Why? You could have a YouTube video, and check how much likes it has to gauge interest!

Likes are free, everybody can like a damn youtube video and especially on the internet a lot of people like to talk big but do little (just take a look at all those game boycotts that never work out for example), asking people to put their money where their mouth is makes more sense than some people like to acknowledge in this case.

So, Sony using Kickstarter as their own personal marketing tool instead of gauging interest for their titles and putting up their own god damn money? You will se MANY other big publishers do this which mean less backing for independent developers.

They didn't mention anything about doing this for their own titles. So... What exactly is wrong here?

You think they would have supported Shenmue 3 if it was to be released on X1 and WiiU aswell?

I don't see what's wrong with them securing the exclusivity with such a deal. Yu Suzuki was looking for investors. He went to Kickstarter to gauge interest and convince those investors. Sony is one of them, and their deal secures a console exclusivity. I don't see what's wrong with that.

I hope they do it for every single game they have in their catalogue just so one i can back WHAT i FREAKING want since they are not putting a gun to my head and just for the extra lols from all the people complaining about it.

Well.. it's basicly extortion.. Its a hostage situation. "Give us x dollars or you'll never see your favourite game again!"

It's not extortion. If not for kickstarter, the project would never have seen the light of day. Since Sega didn't want or couldn't fund it themselves.

Kickstarter is not extortion. Seriously, than spin... -__-

it could set a precendent.. now its just 2 million.. " to gauge interest"... but what if they ask 30 million for the legend of dragoon.. the entire production budget..

I don't like it. For a big company like Sony, $2m is not much so asking people to donate money makes them look cheap. I hope they don't do it for other games.

What sounds strange to me is how low the budget Suzuki requires to make Shenmue III is.

Really , $2m is nothing to make a game like Shenmue.    For reference, the other two games in the series costed +$40m and that in the 1990s.

Sony isn't saying everything here.  They must be supporting Suzuki not only with funding, but also with Tech.
