Said statement is 100% true. Engaging your audience is a must for any business to succeed. If you were to preview something, you need to make sure it will appease your fanbase. If not, your product is being set up failure.

Always entice your audience for success. This is how you "win" E3. What makes this more polarizing is the fact Nintendo won the previous year. Logic dictates you should go for a repeat performance, but sadly, this form of aspiration was not applied here.
