Forums - General Discussion - I'm feeling "dirty" from spending alot of money, even though I have it?

I just bought a PSP tonight, I had one when they first came out but I got rid of it because the games were too slow to come out and because they took forever to add the features I wanted. I mainly got it so that I can play God Of War: Chains of Olympus and Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core. I haven't opened it yet. Now here is the dilemma.

I have all three home consoles. I haven't beaten Super Mario Galaxy or Metroid but after I do, I really don't see anything else I want to play on the Wii (I'm a "hardcore" gamer with a casual's amount of playing). I never play my Xbox 360 anymore, the only game I have on it that I've not beaten is Mass Effect, and I can't really get into it. My PS3 is waiting for games, and many of them are ones I want to play. The dilemma is this, should I considering selling my Wii and trading my Xbox 360? I know this is going to sound insane but... I feel "dirty" about owning so many game systems with the fact that I rarely take time to play my PS3 let alone my Wii or my Xbox 360. I am "trying" to move out of my parents house right now (trying is in quotes because I'm not really trying that hard to pay off my bills, I'm buying toys) and I work as a software developer and make good money so in this scenario I can buy alot of "stuff". Does anyone else think this might make me feel better? Maybe use the Wii money to pay off a bill or two?

Please if you are going to say anything like "OH WAH, you feel bad for spending money I feel sorry for you" or any other sarcastic remark please keep it to yourselves

P.S. By bills I mean debt

ahaha i might buy my psp back also when crisis core and gran turismo 4 mobile comes.

Just start budgeting better for the future. If you sell the Wii, PS3 or 360 off you'll most likely spend even more money purchasing one in the future.

My suggestion would be to create an games budget for yourself, something like $120 a month. For a while I was also spending a lot of money on games, movies, etc. but after cutting down to 1-2 new games a month I've been able to save a lot more.

Why don't you just start saving your money from now on instead of buying "toys"? By save I mean start paying off your bills/debt? That way once you get it down somewhat you'll be financially able to move out on your own.

Then maybe buy games every once in a while after you move out. It'll also give you a chance to finish the games that you haven't finished yet.

starcraft: "I and every PS3 fanboy alive are waiting for Versus more than FFXIII.
Me since the games were revealed, the fanboys since E3."

Skeeuk: "playstation 3 is the ultimate in gaming acceleration"

Just start calling your parents your "roommates", and it's cool.

By the way, do you have a race-car bed?

I feel for ya, man--I'm in university, and though I have money in the bank for fun stuff, I feel horrible spending $60-$100 on games every two weeks or so...

I'm gonna have to give myself a budget for next year

EDIT: Sorry, I missed the last line of the OP the first time I read it.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

you're smart enough to be a programmer/developer but not smart enough to learn about finances?

well, maybe what you need isn't knowledge, but discipline.

a classical solution to the problem is finding a girl :) if the girl can't whip you into shape, well, good luck.

the Wii is an epidemic.

Also, why not sell the PS3 for now if you play it the least, seeing as it would get you the most cash, and buy it again later when you know you'll play it?

Yeah, but its an F'n sweet car, I'm thinking about getting a CB in it so I can talk to other car beds :)

I guess I may have said something incorrectly, I play my PS3 the most (Uncharted, COD4, Rachet). That is why I'd think about getting rid of the other two. I don't even know why I made the thread because after I get my new computer (the one I'm typing on is six years old) then I'm making all my money go to getting the hell out of mom and dads. I'd love to find a girl, I'm just too shy (and overweight).

In all honesty, if your parents like having you around, and you don't mind being there (and you pay rent), then there is nothing to feel guilty about. There are a lot of cultures where families live together forever. The US is not one of them, so if you ever do plan on getting a girl, you might want to move out before you're 40 ;)
