Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is the Wii U the worst console of all time?(OP clarification)

Yes one of the worst in my opinion, but for a different reason. They were targeting casuals just like with the Wii and were aiming at one hit game with the tablet controller(nintendo land) and hoping the market would do the rest just like what happenned with Wii Sports. It didn't work, and what was left was an overpriced, underpowered system with and accessory that even Nintendo themselves barely showed support.

It's that mindset that makes the Wii-U one of the worst systems ever.

Love that picture so much lol.

OT perhaps change the title of the thread to include you're basing it on the past 7 years and are not including companies who have released worse consoles... which includes Nintendo themselves.

I don't think you can edit titles. I think most people get my point, however, especially superchunk. I see that i don't need to

@SanAndreasX

Are you serious? The Vita has Gravity Rush(new IP), Uncharted: Golden Abyss and Persona 4. Just with a quick google check you can see those games and tonsothers. The Wii U? Mass Effect(port) and a bunch of the same old Kart, Smash and Mario 3D land(side scroller not even in the levels of galaxy or sunshine) Nintendo has so little faith in the Wii U that they even release the same game(smash 4) for the DS to not lose money. I think you truly need to wake up and accept that nintendo needs to change their strategy, they messed up this generation. Most of the games you list like fire emblem and xenoblade you could pretty much get the same experience by buying a DS.

You are such a hypocrit for playing down Nintendo for having 'same old' and similar experiences on DS while you mention Uncharted (3 superior games on ps3) and a remake of Persona as 2 of your 3 standout titles. That you don't like them doesn't mean they're not good you known.

Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8, Super Mario 3D World (It's not even a sidescroller), Windwaker HD, NSMBY, DKC:TP, Bayonetta 2 (funded), Captain Toad, Splatoon, Hyrule Warriors, Pikmin 3, Shovel Knight, Rayman Legends, Shantae and the Pirate Curse, Monster Hunter 3, The Wonderfull 101 to name a couple of great games. With games like Mario Maker, Fatal Frame, Devlis Third, Zelda, Xenoblade Chronicles X, SMTxFE still arriving.

Do a google search and you can check for yourself....

As for onyl including PS, Nintendo, Xbox and SEGA

I think it's definately better than:

Vita, Original Xbox, Saturn and Mastersystem

And at least on par with a couple of other

well wasnt that a handheld?  i cant remember so well today, but im pretty sure i saw people playing outside on some nintendo posters or in nintendo power of what ever.

No. Though I don't care for the Gamepad and the game library is lacking some serious heavyhitters, what is there is pretty damn good, if not great. For me, there's something about a Nintendo console and the inherent charm its games possess. I would love it if I can compliment those charming games with the grittier games from other consoles on the same console, but as it stands, that won't happen.

So, in short, I do not believe the Wii U is the worst console of all time. Sure, the Gamepad concept fell flat and the support has largely dried up, but the exclusives are superb.

I think Wii U will pull even with the GameCube by generation's end.

No it doesn't have Resident Evil or Metroid or Animal Crossing ...

BUT it has Splatoon, Bayonetta 1/2, Xenoblade, and Mario Maker + NSMB (2D Mario) ... something the GameCube didn't have.

Mario 3D World, Smash U, DKC: TF, Mario Kart 8 are also equal or better than their equivalents on the GameCube.

If Zelda U is better than Wind Waker, IMO that tips the scales in favor of the Wii U.

Soundwave, I find myself concerned that I'm agreeing with you so much lately.

Makes two of us. It is such an uneasy feeling. Like getting punched in the gut but feeling somewhat good about it.

Team Soundwave for this one minute!

The Wii U doesn't even have a Prime game nor  a strong Mario game.

I wouldn´t say that the hardware is bad at all. Some games make great use of the gamepad

But after that dissapoiting E3, I´d say that it will likely be the worst Nintendo home console ever in therms of software. Nintendo seems to give up completely on the device by not giving it new software and by not using some of their main franchises. Basically, it´s a console for Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros, only.

They could at least bring Metroid, Animal Crossing and another franchise (like Kid Icarus, Punch-Out etc.) for it.

W101, Lego City Undercover, Pikmin 3, Mario 3D World, Donkey Kong, Hurley Warriors, Bayonetta I/II, Zelda WWHD/U, Splatoon, Yoshi Wooly World, Star Fox, Fatal Frame V, Xenoblade X..

Discounting all the niche consoles like the 3DO, CD-i, Bandai thingy, Pippin, Channel F and whatever else over the generations, it still isn't, though of the Big 5 (Nintendo, PlayStation, XBox, SEGA and Atari) I'd say it is giving everything a run for their money.

I have only played the 2600, which is pretty awesome and for it's time relatively way better than WiiU will ever be, but I'm sure the 5200, 7800 and Jaguar are worse than WiiU. SEGA Saturn maybe, haven't played that one either and don't really know what it has to offer.

All XBoxes, all PlayStations, the Dreamcast and the Mega Drive however are definitely better than WiiU. Some of them with ease.

Of Nintendo consoles themselves, I'd say it's also still firmly in last place. Previously, GameCube was easily my least favorite, with disappointing entries in the main IP's. Mario Sunshine, Double Dash, Wind Waker, all my least favorites in their series (for Mario and WW in the 3D series at least). While WiiU's Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8 are better, GameCube just had more interesting new things and more things in general. Also, while 3D World is better as a game, Sunshine was still a bigger deal because it was a 'true 3D Mario' adventure. As of now all this, keeps GameCube above WiiU for me. That console is also realistically the only one WiiU can still hope to beat, because Zelda U would need to be the best game ever made (and remain exclusive otherwise if's impact diminishes) for it to even hope to beat Wii, SNES, NES and definitely N64.

I do agree with Soundwave though that if Zelda U is better than Wind Waker, that could still tip the scales in it's favor. And Zelda U being better than Wind Waker is, to me, pretty likely.
