and now old games matter all of the sudden?

Economics of scale, PS4 user base means dev charge MS a premium. One their Ceo will not pay. Was easier to secure deals when they build up a bit of a lead due to the early launch.

They do have the conviction to achieve. For me, they always have. It is just some of that was initially gone after Don Mattrick tried to destroy the Xbox Division. Microsoft needed a person to not only give them the conviction they initially lost, but the power to believe. This is where Phil enters the equation for me.

Since then, Phil has single handedly brought back Microsoft's determination, resolve, conviction and perseverance back into not just Microsoft or the Xbox Division, but the fans as well. I understand that what Microsoft and Mattrick tried to do doesn't warrant Microsoft a free pass, and it doesn't; never will for me. However, thanks in part to Phil's demeanor and great repour with gamers, we are seeing the fruition of his hard work; Microsoft has been going guns ablazing ever since then and have fought hard. Fallout 4 and Tomb Raider highlight their resilience to yield to the competition.

In the end, Gamers love it when companies fight on; bad circumstances or not. Greater products are forged as a result. That stated, Microsoft will now have conviction greater than the Ones beginnings and continue on track to combat Sony; regardless of what Sony does.

To end my statement, this isn't an attack directed at the OP at all. My statements had two goals.

1.) Answer the OP's question

2.) Share my thoughts from an entertainment standpoint

As gamers, we really should be ambivalent towards the victor. Games that deliver upon our set criteria are a big reason on why we are called gamers in my opinion. Yes, I do like Sony's press conference more overall. However, I also liked Microsoft's as well. Cuphead and ReCore are two games I cannot wait to get; the Elite Controller my personal dark highlight. So again, for me, Microsoft never lost their conviction; finding it was the question they needed to answer.

The 8th generation should've taught you by now that old games do in fact matter.

Current gaming platforms - Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, New 3DS, PC

While not entirely relevant to the topic at hand, I really don't like these partnership deals, its an anti-consumer policy, locking out consumers of beta's and content and other whatnot's because they own a different consoles.

If you are offering mutliplats, I believe they should offer more or less the same content between systems

I really do wish Sony and Microsoft would stop paying third party publishers for these deals.

I just feel I need to say this.

Actually it's a good reflection, and I don't know what to think about. Like you said, they are doing good things and trying, but they're letting some important deals go and not moneyhatting as they did before.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

I'm sure everyone would agree... It's very anti-consumer, but how else can these companies convince people to buy their console over their competition?

Their budget was to develop Xbox 360 emulation on Xbox one i guess. or maybe ported all 100 Xbox 360 games to Xbox One system and claim it's backward compatibility .

They start with 100 games and will add more over time. I'm not sure why such a huge feature is being down played...but whatever floats your boat man.

They are starting with less then 10 games , you can check on google how many games already available and targeting 100 games for the final. Then again i am not downplaying it, i am just assuming that their budget was relocated to diffference area which is building backward compatibility (either emulate it or just simply porting it).

Backward compatibility is a great feature never the less, i am just saying their focusing and investing on the past games, not saying they dont have new IP, but interms of games exclusivity and third party exclusive games and marketing it's entirely  different from their previous E3 shows, Maybe it's good thing, or bad i dont know.

I understand why they do it and it's probably a necessary evil I have to accept  But it doesn't sit with me well. I suppose if it had to answer your question, exclusive games and I wouldn't be bothered at all if they just bid for marketing rights. Not being able to get the additional content and trying out beta's is really shitty.
