The market in Japan has contracted so much due mainly to mobile and Japan's lifestyle that not even a bigger number of system sellers can make the PS4 outsell the PS3, I think but there's a high chance that unlike the PS3, the PS4 will become very cheap late in its life so maybe that actually will give it an advantage and will get close.


The fact is we cant know without trying, there is no way to say if the market is really smaller than last gen if they didnt try to sell their consoles, for now, they only had MGS and Dragon QUest Heroes to do that ( and both multiplatform) , it will be much better with all these exclusives coming

FF VII would move a huge amont of consoles in Japan, and bone and PC are irrelevant in Japan sales wise.

And likely come only on PC based on Kagari, the most informed guy about SE projects

True, this is why no game release will make any major sales spike in Japan. most people moving into the next generation has already bought the system.

True, this is why no game release will make any major sales spike in Japan. most people moving into the next generation has already bought the system.


You probably quoted the wrong person and no. Unless you're Wii U, not everyone in Japan move into next gen without the games they truly want.

I predicted this since launch and was starting to doubt a little lately, but with the recent announcements i'm certain again. PS4 will easily outsell PS3 and will probably end up in the middle between it and PS2 at around 15 million in Japan.

But you can't just take one parameter, say PS4 is better than PS3 in this case (while this is also subjective) and say you are done. There are way more parameters to consider.

PS4 will have much better software, a much lower price and more frequent price drops later on in its cycle due to Sony's well distributed component partners, which in turn would lead to much more support not only for Japan but across the world. And if people think sales of the PS4 are good or dominant right now...just wait until the redesign. I'm almost convinced that the PS4 can outsell PS3 in Japan and the PS4 just gets better all the time.

PS4 has everything going for it in Japan this gen compared to PS3, if theres one thing that can stop it is sadly this

Hounestly i think interest in mobile gaming will stagnate at some point. It just doesn't give the same experience as a console game, and although very addictive it just doesn't give the same satisfaction either. Not to mention the crappy controls. I used to play quite a bit on mobile to but have quit all together because i have lost interest in it.

 

I think Japan will eventually rediscover consoles again, and i don't it will take that longer either.
