Forums - Movies & TV - Jurassic World records biggest Friday in box office history

It's already tracking to beat The Avengerss first weekend in domestic box office  and it's already the biggest in terms of opening weekend worldwide. Only Universal is estimating at the low end of its first weekend gross(which is 204.5m). Everyone else seem to be estimating higher upwards of 207m for its first weekend.

It also opened in every big market except from Japan. So it won't outgross Age of Ultron or F&F7 worldwide.

How so? Opening early and opening later on aren't that much different. It has every chance to outgross Ultron but a bit less with F7 and The Avengers. Age of Ultron also opened in all big markets even before its US debut.  Jurassic World has a chance of earning more than a billion internationally and has a larger chance of outgrossing Ultron domestically.

Well, it only broke the worldwide record for an opening week because it opened in so many territories.

That's true but it could potentially continue on and break more eventually.

According to Deadline:
'When the dust settles tomorrow morning, Universal’s Jurassic World is expected to post the biggest opening ever at the domestic B.O. with a FSS of $208M-$210M, overtaking previous champ Disney’s Marvel The Avengers which held the title for the last three years with $207.4M. Industry estimates peg JW‘s Sunday at $55M-$57M which would rep a 19-21% decline from Saturday’s $70M."

With the actual numbers in its now the biggest domestic opening weekend with $208.8 tops the first Avengers movie by over a million which did $207.4. Way more then I thought it would did will easily earn more then a billion world wide. Anything beyond that is just a nice bonus.

Does anybody recommend it ?

Official Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Thread

As far as an action/adventure movies goes Jurassic World is top notch.

The movie was a blast to watch and had some truly amazing scenes with the dinosaurs. The CGI is amazing and the new setting is really cool. There was a ton of throwback to the original movie and had a pretty good plot that made the story make some sense and actually believable. Chris Pratt was lovable yet again and really excelled in this goofy yet cool action/ adventure guy. Also the chemistry between the leads was nice.

Although the movie had some negatives. Some of the character roles were cliche and the two kids were obnoxious throughout the movie. Their story line was very rushed and oddly put together and often made for some eye rolling scenes. There were also a lot of dramatic scenes typical of action/adventure movies like this, that zoomed in on corny one liners and things like that.

However the movie isn't the type to be too critical of because that's not what its trying the appeal to. The focus is to have fun and you should much like you would at an actual amusement park "Enjoy the Ride"!

Why doesn't the op think this record will last long?

It has already nearly doubled JP3! Nothing huge is coming either so It should have a strong hold. Plus it seems good word of mouth could help.

A lot of people think Star Wars is going to bust the boxoffice later this year which is very likely. Although I think sense it is an 8th installment to the franchise that new people to the series may shy away from it, but the movie seems to be promoted as more of a reboot so idk. Should be a huge opening nonetheless, but it will be tough to beat 208 million in the first weekend.
